There was nothing really wrong with this hotel, the rooms were clean and warm and the bath was lovely. The beds were a major letdown -, I am glad there was 2 in the room, as there was no way 2 people could sleep in 1 bed, because I tried and was lying in the bed on a 45 degree angle..... So we made use of the 2 beds provided.
What really gets me about this hotel, is that it is totally generic. There is nothing in the hotel that says New Zealand, or Te Anau, so I could be in any average hotel anywhere in the world. I did notice a number of tourist coaches parked outfront and I felt that if I was on one of those tours I would be disappointed.

It is old, but not to bad. Generally clean. The cost of the meals was high for the state of the place, we just looked in the dining room & the menu then went down town I got better surrounds with a much better price. There cleaning staff block the passageway by the computers with there clearers etc every morning, which makes it hard to get past to go up stairs. Wouldn't stay again would reccomend you went to another Hotel in Te Anau.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. I apologise for the cleaners leaving their equipment in the way of guests and have spoken to the staff. Disappointed that you felt our meal prices were high , we do also have specials nights during the week.

Excellent budget place. Appears slightly old and tired but you cannot fault the cleanliness, great value breakfast and super friendly staff. All very efficient and in 5 minutes walking distance from the centre. Recommend the Moose nearby for a game of pool!

This hotel has definitely seen better days. It's very basic with very small, very soft, double beds. It was clean enough although the bath/shower plug hole was filled with hair (yuck), and behind the bathroom door had not been swept or vacuumed. We had breakfast included in our stay but if had to pay for it seperately would be very disappointed. You could get a much nicer, cheaper breakfast at a local cafe - which there seem to be plenty of. The TV's are old with only 4 or 5 channels, not so good when travelling with young children who go to bed early and wake up early.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review and please accept my apologies for the hairs found in the bathroom. The TV's will be upgraded to flat screens in the near future and with digital now in the South Island we have 12 TV channels now.

We stayedhere for 1 night before doing an overnight cruise on the Doubtful Sound. We arrived mid afternoon, and as previous reviews state, it is very basic, it is not somewhere I would want to stay for more than 1 night or for much longer than to simply sleep. We only actually stayed in the room to sleep as whilst it was clean, the outdatedness of it made it seem as if it wasn't. We spent the afternoon walking around the lake and ate out in the main town. There isn't an awful lot to do in Te Anau and it seems it is primarily used as a stop off for the tours on the Sounds. One other thing to note was that as we were leaving a coach load of Japanese tourists were getting off the coach and checking in.

The food was good. Room clean. Friendly staff.
The only downside is no lifts in the building - but, it is only the groundfloor and one flight of stairs up.
We accidently broke a cup, notified staff, and they insisted that we not pay for it. Staff very accommodating
Swimming pool and fitness centre not used or enquired about

Room Tip: easy access to town, close to tourist attractions

We stayed two nights while visiting Milford Sound and Te Anau, we paid for a lake view room, which was not worth it, there is a much better view from the restaurant. The rooms are clean but tired and in need of refurbishment the TV was still the large tube style with a very poor reception it stuck out in the room, making the room feel smaller than it was. The base of the bed was mouldy. The bathroom was very small and two people could not be in there at the same time. Breakfast was nothing special, the tomatoes where out of a tin, the eggs were the same both mornings (over cook - poached). The staff were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are not worth the extra
