Stayed here for 3 weeks while touring New Zealand over Christmas and New Year 2011/2012. Managed to get a double room which was simply perfect for me and opened up onto a lovely peaceful garden. As a solo traveller and chef, found the kitchen to be one of the best I have ever had the privilege to use while on the road. So memorable to have spent the time here. Lots of help available re the local area from Rosie and her husband Alistar and this is the perfect base to explore this wonderful part of the world. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Book early and ask for the double room if you have a little more money to spend - great value!

We really had a good time at Rosies Backpackers! Thank you Rosie, your family and friends, for giving us three unforgettable days in Te Anau! We had such a good feeling staying there! If New Zealand wasn't that far away, we would definitely go back to say hi!

If you are a backpacker and are looking for a real family homestay in Te Anau, don't hesitate and call Rosie! She will give you tips for the best trips and hikes (because she's a hiker herself!).

Her hostel is very clean and has one of the best equipped kitchens you'll find in hostels!

P.S.: Don't forget to use your BBH-member card!

This one was a little bit different in that the owners have turned their downstairs into a backpackers, so that you share the kitchen with them. Since it is their home, then you have the feeling of simply staying in someone's home, which, as a solo female traveller I really loved this. You still sleep in a dorm with others but the atmosphere just felt far more homely and personal. They didnt appear to have a laundry however, i could be wrong about this but i suppose that isnt the end of the world, just something to be aware of when planning 'washing day' on the move. This one is a LONG way from town if you are walking. Very comfortable, very homely, great owners, loved this one.
