I had to search hard to find mention of this on TripAdvisor and am surprised it's not yet been reviewed. We only learned of the existence of "ATA WHENUA - Shadowland" whilst talking with another couple of Aussies taking the Doubtful Sound cruise, who urged us not to miss this cinematic experience.
Due to steering problems on the return crossing of Lake Manapouri we were later than planned for our evening, but headed straight for this classy little cinema and managed to get in to the final screening of the night. It's only a 32min movie with no dialogue - just "outstanding musical composition in surround sound" as the brochure says. Filmed by award-winning cinematographers from helicopters it is indeed a spectacular journey through the awe-inspiring landscapes of Fiordland. The clever matching of film with beautiful music makes this a memorable inclusion in a visit toTe Anau .
Good coffee and a glass of wine, comfy seating in this purpose-built theatre and multiple screenings each evening make this a "don't miss" experience in Te Anau.
