“Best stay on the South Island”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

My wife and I stayed at Dusky Ridges in March with my one year old son and I have no hesitation in saying it was the BEST place we stayed during our trip around the South Island. Our only regret was not staying longer - it was simply stunning.

The location is fantastic overlooking farmland and the magnificant Southern Alps and you are only 5 minutes or so drive from the centre of Te Anau. Given we were travelling with a little one, the farm animals were a hit and the hosts did everything they could to make us feel at home (toys for our son etc).

The farmstay is well equipped with everything you could need (except a dryer but thats not the end of the world) and all finishes were of exceptional standard. The accomdation was a two story town house with two bedrooms and the bathroom upstairs and everything else downstairs. It could be awefully romantic if you weren't travelling with a kid!

Room Tip: The owners are lovely people - for this reason - book in advance!

We stayed at Dusky Ridge for 3 nights in March 2012. From the moment we arrived when Win presented us with freshly baked bread and homemade jam we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The farm is stunning and you can see Win and Henrik's passion and love for their property everywhere you look. We especially loved lying in bed and looking up at the never ending stars through the window/skylight. We also suggest a visit to the local Caltex Service station and you drive in to Te Anau and see Peter who was extremely helpful in organising and booking all our activities including a magnificent helicopter flight over Milford Sound.

First of all, Win and Hendrik are perfect!! I cannot describe in word how good they are. But they made our stay so special for us. Win took us to see her farm and she was very concentrate with it. We got knowledge and fun. What a unique experience.

Accommodation was great also. Sitting in the middle of endless farm. Get really close to the animals. Also has its own comfort. I can stay here a week or a month.

Recommend to stay at least 2 nights which you will get more of farm experience. This is the must of New Zealand.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was such a pleasant stay.
From the minute we drove up the drive way me and my boyfriend were speechless.
Dusky Ridges is located on a higher piece of land and that gives a magnificent view across the landscape. It was perfection !
The house is spottless and beautifully decorated, we were overwhelmed by this wonderful b&b.
Win and Henrik are so kind, we felt so welcome here ! Thank you so much for everything, we stayed in the most beautifull b&b's in New Zealand, but none could match up to Dusky Ridges.
Dusky Ridges has a real soul !

Win and Henrik -> Thank you thank you thank you....xxx

We stayed at Dusky Ridges for two nights in February 2012. I seriously could have lived here permanently. Upon arrival, I was actually in a bit of a bad mood from living out of a suitcase for the past three weeks. But when we pulled up to Dusky Ridges, my moodiness immediately disappeared. This farm stay is up on a hill overlooking mountains in the distance and is just beautiful! Also, Win and Henrik just built their house and the B&B two years ago so it is super cute and brand new. You actually get to stay in a whole little house complete with a kitchen, living room, washing machine, two bedrooms, and an awesome bathroom. The rooms and everything are decorated so prettily (I wish my house at home looked this cute) and everything is very comfortable. We truly felt like we were at home and didn’t want to leave. Win also brought us fresh baked bread and stocked our fridge with venison sausages and eggs from their farm, among other delicious treats. Win took over two hours showing us the farm and letting us pet and feed the sheep and deer as well as meet the sheep dogs in addition to learning a lot about farming in New Zealand. The view of the stars from the B&B at night is amazing. Definitely stay here when in Te Anau!

Everything here is perfect, the bread, the kitchen, the home and the decorations... We can see Win's heart and wonderful talent in every place. Beyond the rooms, we could not get another great introduction for farming in other place and could not get another wonderful experience for feeding the animals. Sadly, we could only stayed here for 1 night, and comparing my stay near lake teanau, we will definitely choose here as our second home in Te Anau.

Beautiful spot with amazing sunsets and a viewing window to the sky above your bed so you can see the clear night sky. Hilarious animals - especially the confident Phoebe, the determined sheep and the socially awkward alpacas. Deliciously fresh food including home baked bread, venison sausages, eggs, jam, OJ and lots of hot drinks. Privacy mixed with a warm welcome - perfect. Keep it up Win and Henrik! We will be recommending others and hope to be back again.
