Me and my patner stayed here when visiting Fiordland. It was chosen as a break from our (very small) campervan, but so glad we decided to stay there. Knobs Flat is situated halfway between Te Anau and Milford Sound, so if you want to do something different than a bus tour to Milford Sound from Te Anau, this is a good place to base yourself.
It's located in the Eglinton Valley which in itself is a stunning location - we stayed in the Knobs Flat studio unit for 2 people which was self-catering bedroom / kitchenette and bathroom for NZD115 per night. There's also a separate DoC campsite right next door, if you don't fancy splashing out on a studio unit.
One word of advice is shop for both food and petrol before you leave Te Anau as there isn't a town between here and Milford Sound.
