This lake is a great place to walk along the shores or get out in a boat and cruise to the far end. It can be dark and moody when the suns not out.

The whole area is a photographer’s heaven.
Catch the predawn magic light by the water, above the town or anywhere in the area. You need multiple nights and to be up well before breakfast. To make the most of your time plan your shots during the day, do the classic Milford Sound drive before the tourist buses are on the roar and get an early night.
Pre dawn is the magic time - so be prepared and wrap up warm with plenty of insect repellent in every season.

Arriving mid morning overcast skies and rain thoroughly masked the potential of the lake. Three hours later sunny skies revealed stunning vistas. Seems this kind of scenario is normal so if it’s not great right away a little patience can bring huge rewards.

Beautiful lake right in town. Well worth a walk along it's shores, or even better, hire a bike and take a ride. So different in varying weather conditions so check it out more than once if you are in Te Anau for a while or when the weather changes

The beauty of this place is mesmerising. Loved it. It’s good for everyone. The lake has a beautiful range as its backdrop. Quiet, family friendly & just worth a visit.
