Highly recommend Whakata. The house it lovely, bright and clean, with every modern convenience you could want. The layout of the house means 2 couples could stay within their bedroom and bathroom each, and then share the lounge and kitchen. But we were a family with 2 teens, and it suited us really well too.
There is an outside area with BBQ and spa. The house is set on the owners property but is very private. Perrin met us and showed us around, and he was just lovely. My teens really enjoyed the animals on the property, which you can access if you want. There are cheery little chickens, so lots of eggs to make scrambled eggs for breakfast. Laundry facilities too. It is close to town and easy to find.
Totally in love with this place. The cottage is very clean and tastefully decorated with all the conveniences you can only find at home. Apart from inviting our kids over for a play date, the owner also shared with us their catch and their farm eggs. My kids enjoyed running around and play with the animals. If you visit to Fiordland, this is a place not to be missed and I am sure you will enjoy this home away from home.
We are a family of 4 (kids 8, 10) traveling around New Zealand for a couple weeks and this house was just amazing for us. The house was clean, had everything we needed, and so much more. Rachael is very friendly and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and was able to provide advice on tours, hikes and other things to do in the area. She even sent us recent trail conditions for an alpine hike we were planning. The trampoline in the yard for kids, backdrop of mountains, very comfortable bedding/lodging, fresh eggs in the fridge, stargazing from the hot tub, and the location to enjoy a quiet morning coffee contribute to how wonderful the retreat was for all of us. I can't recommend staying here enough (with or without kids)!
Whakata is beautiful. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Easy to find, the chalet is lovely and comfy with all the amenities you need. The kids had a great time feeding the chickens & lambs, watching the alpacas and having a jump on the trampoline. Of course the spa pool looking out towards the sunset was a highlight, as was the relaxing massage we booked in with Rachael next door. None of us wanted to leave.
