“Good food let down by slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

A popular place, we had to wait for 15 minutes for a table, with good food. Our evening was let down by a 15 minute wait for two cold deserts to arrive although when they arrived, there was nothing wrong with the quality.

“Decent but unexceptional”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

Doing good business, but large mains failed to excite - lamb shanks with mash and vegetables very routine. OK wine list. Staff very pleasant and helpful. In a town short of good eateries, this is typical

“Try the venison”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

Comfortable place with excellent food, I had venison which was very tender and nicely cooked. Prices are very reasonable. Service was good. Only they should change their name because we almost did not go there: fat duck sounds very much like a Chinese take away.

“Fab food and service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

This restaurant was recommend by the owner of the also fabulous Radfords Lakeview Motel in Te Auau. The restaurant was busy but no one was overlooked and if they couldn't be seated straight away they could have a drink at the bar. The menu was excellent and the portions were huge, you must be hungry when you visit or do a lot of walking the next day to burn off the calories! Service was excellent and you couldn't ask for more, a great place to eat, such a find in a small town.

“Good meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

The location or this restaurant is up at the top end of the main street. Service was prompt and friendly. I had the lambs liver and it was a very generous portion beautifully cooked. My wife went for the mussels, a full kilo in a very tasty coconut source, and served with garlic bread. The restaurant has a very good selection of South Island wines and an excellent range of beers. There tables both inside and out.
