“A very pleasant surprise”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

While driving to Milford Sounds from Queenstown we stopped at Te Anau and were looking for public utilities when we came across this corner restaurant.

We settled for breakfast and found the food and coffee very good to let it go and ended up spending quite a lot of time, chatting with the staff. I even signed a public interest petition about a tunnel.

On the whole a very nice place and a must visit if on route to Milford Sounds.

“Super service”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

We generally eat at different places each night when travelling but the Fat Duck's service and food was too good to risk, so we returned.

“Friendly atmosphere”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Two visits here very recently, one for lunch for two and another for dinner in a big family group. The staff were very accommodating. Our lunch was on a bit of a schedule, so they made sure we received our meals very quickly. Our dinner was lateish and a unbooked arrival of 10 (5 kids), but it wasn't a problem. I loved both my meals - on a bit of vegetarian kick at the moment, but both dishes were highly appealing (stuffed mushrooms and a vegetarian filo - though this did have way too much mash underneath). I did steal some of my husbands lamb salad and it was yum too! Our kids are squid ring afficionados and the huge plate they got kept them well satisfied! The remainder of the group got the standard burgers, fish and chips and bangers and mash and enjoyed their meals. The kids finished with ice cream sundaes, the adults coffees. A pleasant evening had by all

“Try the Lambs Fry”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

There's a fairly limited offering in Te Anau, but the Fat Duck is a good choice. Both casual and formal seating - coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner. We tried beers & snacks on our first visit & breakfast on our second. Loved the lamb's fry !
