“Good ribeye and filet for a fair price”
Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

Busy place over holiday season but service was prompt but you'd be better off making a reservation. Our steaks were delicious and didn't even need the sauces offered. Portions were large and the prices some of the best we found on the South Island.

“Nice choc brownie!”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Popped in here for a quick coffee and cake. It was nice and we had good friendly service. There weren't any comfy chairs left so we came and went quickly, maybe need more relaxed seating areas.

“Definitely go here on your visit to Te Anau”

This is a good Southern pub, we've eaten here a few times over our visits to Te Anau and always been happy in terms of food, service and atmosphere.

“Bad coffee, poor menu”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Went in here for lunch upon arrival in Te Anau. When I attempted to order lunch I was told that I had to wait 10 minutes as the lunch service had not started (arrived at 12:30pm) but the all day breakfast was still available. This was not noted on the menu & the breakfast menu simply did not exist!

I found this inconvenient but was happy to have a coffee whilst I waited for the lunch service to begin. When the coffee arrived it was so so bad (was basically warm milk with a hint of coffee) that my partner & I left the restaurant after only a few sips. I figured that if they can't get a simple coffee right then I don't want to wait & see how bad the balls up the food.

Tips for the Fat Duck: Try putting the breakfast items on the menu & clearly state what time the lunch/dinner etc service starts & most importantly of all: teach your staff to make coffee properly. Very embarrassing for you.

“Fast food”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

The food and the service in this restaurant are ok. But it is very annoying when the dishes with the main course are served while the dishes with the starters are still on the table. It looks like we have to eat very quickly so that the table soon is available for new guests. In the USA this is a common practice, but this was the first time we have encounterd it in NZ.
We noticed a lot of couples with childern in this restaurant.
