We were staying in Te Anau for work and some workmates said to give this restaurant a try. Well the food was average, they profess their pasta is homemade, some of it may be but mine certainly wasn't and the sauce tasted straight out of a jar. And for $22 the portion was very small.

Worst part however was the owner, who is Italian. He thinks he's a comedian but all he does is abuse people. He hassled my friend for being English and told me I was fat, constantly claiming "I'm only joking, I'm only joking". Well you are not funny. Don't go there.

Noisy little bustly restaurant with a real character running the whole affair! Well done Roberto for the life and entertainment you provide to your diners! Took a while for our meal to come but in fairness, the cyclist team were monopolizing it and were pretty "full-on".

We stayed two nights in te anau. Our guide didn't have much on the town by way of eating options We walked up and down, looked at all options, passed La Dolce Vita twice, didn't like the look of it and walked on in search something else. We even went back to the hotel, thought about that option and went out again in search of somewhere have decent. At this point our expectations weren't high and we settled on La Dolce Vita, the only placed reviewed in the book. It's a tired building, the wallpaper could be from the 70s and the generally decor wasn't great, although there was a terrific atmosphere inside. That's where the concerns stopped. Roberto, the waiter and owner, is like something from a Benigni film. We had great fun with the other tables, mostly tourists for the rugby and Roberto declared our table Irish even if we had an Italian with us! The food was very good, some very traditional Italian dishes, starters and mains were great. Roberto got some interaction going between the tables and the atmosphere was just brilliant. We returned for a second night and enjoyed it just as much as the first. Note: the pasta is all made on site and it tastes fantastic. This is a little gem of a restaurant. Don't judge a book by it's cover as the old adage goes.......

Bright and airy restaurant with typical Italian music setting the atmosphere. Very popular so need to book. Nice meal, extensive menu, good service and value. Only criticism is that the chairs were a little hard.
