What a wonderful experience this trip was- as well as learning more about the history of the island, and where the settlers first came, we saw an abundance of wildlife- before we even stepped food on Ulva island! A pair of little blue penguins swam alongside us for a short while, and stopping to feed the Mollymawks was wonderful too.
The tour of Ulva island was also fantastic. We split into smaller groups of around 8, and Ivan, our guide, was full of useful information about the local wildlife. We saw a number of birds up close- the bellbird, the tui, kaka and keruru, but most charmingly was the little robin who came down beside our feet to forage in the earth beside us.
Despite the tide coming in, the tour of Ulva island wasn't rushed, and the return to the boat added a charming memory of everyone removing socks and shoes to walk across the now slightly underwater dock.
I highly recommend this cruise to everyone- a range of ages were present on the boat, and the walk around Ulva island slow and easy for the young and old alike.
