“Another fine meal”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Ate here on Good Friday night. Our group of 6 were quickly served, and all meals enjoyed. Fish and Chips again for me... excellent as always.

“Bit hit and miss”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Main part of the restaurant looks warm and cosy but we sat out on the glazed in balcony which unfortunately more resembles an american diner. Service was ok, one waitress being cheerful and friendly whilst the other gave you the feeling she didn't quite like her job We both love calamari and when it's on a menu usually share this as an appetizer. The calamari was good! I struggle to remember what my husband had for his main course but do remember he said it was delicious. I had lamb shank, which was tasty but unfortunately only luke warm. Now I guess I could have sent it back but then whoever else you're eating with either has finished or sat and let their food go cold. So either way, is spoils the meal. Chico's had some great bits but on the night we were there some distinctly average bit too, maybe it was just an off night.

“Good warming food at atmosphere”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We ate upstairs one night and they had a log fire on, it was cosy and busy as a tour group was in. We did wait a while too long for food no doubt due to the huge tour group taking precedence. However, the lamb shanks were done to perfection and absolutely great. The fish however was average and the chips were a bit soggy. Key is to have meat here I think. The spare ribs entree looks amazing but unfortunately we did not order that. All in all, it had a cosy atmosphere and was very pleasant eating upstairs.

“Really average in every way”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

So the owner made a booking for us by the fire, we arrive to a 1/4 empty restaurant and find our table is occupied (despite the fact we are the only booking in their reservation book!!) Staff seem totally disengaged and disinterested for the entire time we are there - don't offer to move the other couple or seem that bothered that we did actually book and the owner made the booking.
Food is average - ribs taste nice but arrive on a massive bed of wedges, so actually looks like a much more generous serving than it was, soup was scalding hot, sticky date pudding was a slice of lukewarm cake served with a light drizzle of caramel sauce and a very small scoop of rapidly melting ice cream - we had to ask 3 times for drinks, weren't offered the dessert menu and were basically ignored in an empty restaurant. On the other hand Old Man Rock downstairs (same owners) do great coffee and breakfast and the vibe was completely different.
Realise sometimes a restaurant can have a bad night - wouldn't give them another chance though...
