Owner description: Air Milford is a family owned and operated business based in Queenstown, New Zealand, specialising in personalised sightseeing excursions for visitors who want to experience the very best tours of Queenstown and the South Island of New Zealand. Air Milford purposefully remains a mid-size New Zealand tourism business. This allows the company to stay committed and focused on offering its guests exclusive, niche sightseeing tours of the Queenstown, Fiordland and South Island regions. Air Milford is a tour company - not a transport company. The Air Milford team have an intimate knowledge of the scenic wonders of Fiordland, Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mount Cook and the Queenstown region. The 'hands on' tours take in magnificent fiords, New Zealand native forests and glaciers. Guests will be introduced to New Zealand's stunning native birds, seals, penguins and dolphins. Our modern aircraft are meticulously maintained and we are proud to have achieved one of the Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) highest audit ratings for operations and safety.

What a great experience. We had the perfect day for the short 35 minute flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound, with some clouds around to make it pretty. Rupert, our pilot for the day, pointed out all the sights and we had a great view from a modern high-wing Cessna caravan.

This is how trips should be run... straight in, on the plane, off at the other end and on the boat which departs moments after we step on. No queuing, no messing around. Slick stuff.

The cruise continued the eye popping scenery we'd had on the flight on the way over, but be warned: when they tell you you're liable to get drenched by the waterfall if you stand at the front of the boat, they really mean it!

Rupert was waiting when we got off the boat, and the flight back along a different route, this time with an excellent view of the Sutherland falls.

I'd seen marginally cheaper options advertised and dithered about whether these guys were worth it, but the friendly, slick and professional service meant that I'm glad we stuck with them.

Dear Sir,

What a fantastic report you have provided, of your Milford Sound Fly/Nature Cruise/Fly. This option is perfectly suited to our discerning traveller, with the longer cruise, lunch, and 2 nature guides on board the small boat providing personalised commentary. Although this is priced slightly higher at NZ$499, your description proves it is well worth the extra buck. What a shame that discounts aren’t offered for the daring guest who ventures to the bow of the boat under the mighty Sterling waterfalls!

Your comments provide a pleasant ‘shot’ of motivation to our staff, to continue the high standard of customer service to our guests. Many thanks for choosing to fly with Air Milford - we are glad you were satisfied with the decision.

Sincerely,
Air Milford

I was fortunate to fly down to Milford Sound with Air Milford and the trip was unbelievable. Going to Milford Sound was always a must but the drive was a put off. Why drive when you can fly and receive the best service out there! Staff were amazing and there knowledge of the region was never ending. Views were spectacular and the whole journey never stopped to amaze. If you want to experience Milford Sound and Queenstown then this the best way.

I loved Milford sound, one of the most naturally beautiful places I have been to. However, the trip to the sound with Milford Air in a small cessna was even better. Expensive, but worth it. Flying acroos the NZ alps at 700 ft, in a small plane, with the peaks and glaciers just there outside the plane was one of the most exciting things I have done for ages. Dont do the bus trio ,fly to Milford fjord to totally appreciate the geogreous natural surroundings of Fjordland.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your swift placement of trip advisor feedback following your flight. We are thrilled to hear of your experience, with recommendation to opt for our most popular tour – the Milford Fly/Cruise/Fly.

We understand the fact that this is not the cheapest way to see Milford Sound, but as the saying goes you ‘pay for what you get’, and take into consideration the current strength of the Australian dollar against the NZ – there is no better time to fly than now. With reference to the sheer scale of this vast landscape (in some parts 9,000 ft straight up from the sea), viewing from above is the best way to put it all in perspective.

Once again we thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in NZ as much as your flight with Air Milford, and had a safe journey back home to beautiful Byron Bay.

Sincerely,
Hank Sproull

Spur of the moment decision to fly back stand by after our Select Milford bus trip with Marty.
Matt the pilot sensed our apprehension and quickly put us at ease . Taking off from Milford was amazing and gave us a real appreciation of the vastness of the area which we had just seen by boat. You wont have to argue over the window seat ever again on a commercial flight after getting this close to snowy peaks!!! Wonderful experience. We were still on an adrenaline high when the team dropped us back at our accommodation 3 hours earlier than we expected for a well deserved wine.

Dear Madam,

I wish to express my sincere thanks for your recent trip advisor feedback. I have mentioned this before, but the Coach/Cruise/Fly option is one of the best we offer. It transforms a 13hr day (coach/cruise/coach) into a more manageable 9hrs. Just like you mention, you get another dimension when retracing your steps from above – it’s a must-do to grasp the share scale of this wonderland.

Thanks for choosing to fly with Air Milford, and share your experience with the general public. We look forward to having similarly memorable travels, posted this summer season.

Dear Korban,

Thanks so much for your neat comments, and the awesome picture of you in our Cessna Caravan. As a family based business, we get no greater thrill than seeing young kids like yourself with grins from ear to ear, so we are chuffed to find out how much you enjoyed yourself. We realise that flying with young families can be expensive, and unlike the major airlines who charge full fare for children 12yrs+, our child rates are 5-14yrs. Of course infants fly free!

We appreciate you taking the time to tell other kids how cool flying to Milford Sound is. From Matt, Ants and the Air Milford team, Ka pai.
