We have previously stayed at least twice at Pepper's Beacon and have previously been very impressed, but this third visit was disappointing. We had booked a studio room direct through Pepper's Beacon as part of a gourmet trail deal. On arrival, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and helped us with our bags. there was a lovely smell of freshly baked bread, still in the bread maker, in our room. We had a lovely platter of cheese, grapes and extras. It was a lovely start to the weekend. Breakfast was included the next morning and we were pleasantly surprised by the selection of fresh fruits, cooked options and general service. It was a good start.
We stayed over the weekend of the Gibbston Valley Concert, so Queenstown was busy. It would appear that Pepper's Beacons just could not cope with this extra demand. I could go into details, but do not feel it necessary, suffice to stay that the standard of service deteriorated and the staff were very clearly stressed! Breakfast the following morning was a huge disappointment as items were not being replenished - again this was a major staffing issue.
The hotel is located in a fabulous position, but would recommend rooms situated higher, for the better views. Sorry Peppers, but if you know you are going to be busy, you need to employ extra staff and ask them not to show their stress!
