“Great views, excellent service”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Fantastic views over the lake. Location is very good, only a quick stroll down to the wharfs with a large range of restaurant and bar options. Staff were very knowledgable about the local area, activities and restaurants, and would always take the time to answer any questions about the area.

We stayed last week and had the pleasure of discovering that we had been given a 2 bedroom lake view suite. We were thrilled with the accomodation facilities -everyting a family would need including sky sport!! A nice gas fire and double heavy curtains to be pulled at 5pm so that you keep the heat in - the apartment was completely glass fronted - kept you very cosy indeed.

Beds looked most inviting but weren't as luxiourious to sleep in as they looked although the bedding was nice and very clean. Showers were good and bathrooms were well stocked. Furnishings were very good and location of hotel is fantastic - a few minutes walk and you are right in the heart of town by the wharf. Car parking facilities excellent
Breakfast was served up on the 7th floor which we had to access via the outdoor courtyard which looked really quite nice. Breakfast is very enjoyable with home made muffins, croissants, house-toasted museli was excellent . Very friendly staff keen to help with any questions, give directions etc. Would absolutely stay here again.

Room Tip: try to stay away fro communal bbq area if booking a courtyard room - can get noisy. We had our room...

We stayed for a 5 night ski holiday with the family in a 3 bedroom apt. The unit was spacious, warm, beautifully furnished, with knockout views of the lake and mountains. It had everything we could need in terms of kitchen, gas fireplace, etc. The only downside is the services offered are a bit limited. There is no wireless internet in the apartments (which was fine for me but still something to be aware of). There is no real onsite restaurant. They have a windowless room they use to serve breakfast, which is such a shame when the resort has such amazing views. They use the Rydges next door for room service. But no bar or real restaurant. Saying that, the Beacon is just a 5 minute lakeside walk to Queenstown with ample choice of restaurants and bars. I'd go back. Oh yea, and they offer to set up a bread-maker in your room while you're out skiing, so you can come home to fresh baked bread, which was a big hit.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a lakefront view room.

Kia ORa Hack0s,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us at Peppers Beacon. We are glad to know that you enjoyed your ski holidays and appreciated the idea of having fresh bread on request.

We are aware of the challenges with wired broadband and have already initiated the process of installing wireless internet throughout the property which will take some time.

Great hotel, wishing we could have stayed longer. Brought my family here after our wedding, stayed in a three bedroom apartment with a roaring fire, freshly baked bread upon arrival and the most stunning views. It reminded me of some luxury chalet in Aspen or the French Alps. Not sure what people are complaining about. It's a short walk from town with all the luxuries of home (a very expensive home at that!) I will only stay here from now on when going to Queenstown. Do yourself a favour and do the same!

Room Tip: all rooms face the lake so no need to worry there!

We stayed 7 days at the end of August. The good points, the to bedroom apartment was lovely, great views of lake and Queenstown. Fire place was fantastic. Kitchen was nice. Breakfast was good made better by the staff (Dan in particular). However housekeeping was sloppy. And while it wasn't advertised we expected to have decent Internet service, we expected in a modern hotel to have reasonably priced wireless Internet and that wasn't available to us. While the apartment had heating we did notice the lack of cooling so I would question staying during summer.

I have been to a few hotels in Queenstown, and this year my wife and I decided to stay in one of Peppers hotel rooms before a week of conference in their three bedroom suite with my colleagues.

When we arrived on Friday afternoon, we asked about night skiing on Coronet Peak, and the attendant at the reception didn't know and just casually said it's not available.. We called SnowCentre and they said it is ON! We would have otherwise missed a great night! We got into the room and although it was clean, it smelled strongly of cigarettes and we asked reception to address this. Unfortunately, AN HOUR later, a service guy let himself in while we were getting changed to ski!! And started spraying deodorant without regard that we were still IN THE ROOM!

The noise insulation of the hotel room was close to nothing as we heard EVERY WORD of the room next door at 1am!! When I tried to book a shuttle for my wife, the reception attendant (same as day one!) could not find her flight number and asked us to do it ourselves!! When we checked out, I needed to check back into my company's suite. It was not ready for another 3 hours, which is fine, but the attendant (same one again) asked me to take my bags up myself when I return from my walk, and when I asked if he can place them in my room when ready, he very reluctantly agreed. But when I returned in late afternoon, my luggage were still left on the side of the reception.

Maybe I expect too much, but when their motto is "It's all about you", I certainly didn't feel it at all.. The other attendant Leo(?) was great and was much more helpful in the later part of my stay.. But my wife will never stay here again after this experience....

Room Tip: Any room with a door joining to the adjacent room will leak noise like you're part of the family...

Very nice amenities for families or group of friends wanting to explore Queenstown's ski slopes.
Beds a bit soft for my liking. Views of the lake are stunning and the walk into town only 5 minutes. They should clean their ovens and provide a bread knife. They should also get rid of the complimentary soup upon arrival, because it stinks out the foyer/reception area and makes it quite uninviting when entering the premises. I actually almost vomited when entering the hotel foyer on the day they had broccoli soup in the cauldron. Not nice.

Room Tip: Ask for lake view
