We have stayed in Oak Shores for 3 nights in mid December. Had 2 bedroom apartment on the second floor. It is absolutely great property. Apartments are very new (only 1 year old), the view is incredible, beds are comfortable, bathrooms with heated floor are spotless and great and living/dining area is huge.
After eating in the restaurants for a week, it was nice to have a fully equipt kitchen and to be able to cook some home meals. At that point of our trip we also took advantage of the full washer and dryer that the apartment has.
Walk to town is about 25 - 30 minutes, but has some incredible views along the way. If you take a taxi to town, it is about $10 NZ dollars each way. Don't shop for groceries in downtown, go to New World it is cheaper.
Front desk employees were nice and helped to arrange some trips for us. We also loved the fireplace and nice souround sound system. Overall I would say I would definately comeback to Queenstown and to Oaks Shores again.

We stayed at Oaks Shores for 3 nights in October 2006. We were extremely pleased to walk in to our penthouse apartment and the views are excellent. The only problem we had was with housekeeping, we had booked to have it serviced and paid an extra $20 something a night. We went out for the day & came back to an unmade bed, no fresh towel etc. Went to reception and they checked that it was to be inlcuded and apologised and gave us fresh towels, washing powder etc. The next day when we came back it was only half done and we ran out of toilet paper and soap and had to go to reception. We didn't mind making our bed or washing our towels, however we had paid for it so we were annoyed about that. We went to the restaurant for dinner on our first evening and Dilbagh (the Maitre'd) was extremely friendly and helpful and we had a lovely meal. We planned to eat there again the next night, however, I came down with a cold & sore throat so just had toast in our room. The kitchen was lovely and full equipped. The views are excellent and it is nice & quiet with no traffic noise until the jet boats comes along the lake in the morning. It was lovely to wake up to the skylight and the view of the mountains and lake. Overall, it was lovely, but housekeeping seems to be a problem and I would check next time if it has been sorted out. Vicki at reception was very friendly and helpful. .

What a disappointment this hotel was. We went with friends and we each had a room for two nights (too many) over the 2006/7 New Year period. The hotel is new and set by the gorgeous lake and there is a 45 minute walking track to downtown from the hotel. The main problems were the shortage of carspaces, poor housekeeping and unfriendly staff. On both nights desperate guests were trying to park their car anywhere but to no avail. Even both sides of the steep driveway had parked cars. If you were fortunate enough to get a parking spot, it was a very tight squeeze to get out of the parking area. Rooms were not made up until late, and even then the service only included making the bed. Didn't see them vacuum. Dishes weren't washed, though staff did provide detergent for us to wash up when we complained, We heard numerous other guests complain about similar problems while we were there. After two nights, we moved to Outrigger at the Beacon which was older but much closer to town, had friendly staff and no housekeeping or carparking problems - and cheaper!

My wife and I loved this hotel. Not a bad room in the place; very modern with great ammenities, all overlooking the gorgeous Lake Wakatipu. Be aware, however, that the hotel is not in the city center, so if you don't have a car, it's a bit of a walk -- however, there is a fantastic path (I think it was called the "Frankton Path") which takes you along the water and right into the city center. Good breakfast.

A bit on the pricy side, but we were lucky to get anything in Queenstown during the busy XMas/New Years season.

Enjoy Queenstown and New Zealand -- it's fantastic.

The apartment we stayed in was really beautifully appointed and we had a superb view of the lake, lovely bed! lovely balcony, very spacious and quite luxurious...but....when we got there at 6pm it had not been cleaned and was not serviced the next day either. Management all apologetic but we did not get in until 6.45 and had to make a fuss.
