“Amazing, Amazing, Amazing”
Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

Probably the first time I've been reluctant to write a review (want to keep this place our secret!)
We are on our 2nd visit, the last time about 3 years ago and will definitely remain our first preference when visiting QT.
The apartments are fairly large (we've stayed In both 2 and 3 bed apts) and are well appointed with dishwashers, washining machines, tumble dryers, stone bench tops, iPod dock etc.
The beds are fantastic and offer great nights sleep.
Some have mentioned the hill outside and it may be an issue for some, but you are in a mountainous location and we managed fine even with a kids pusher (you can reduce the impact of the hill by cutting through the lower garage and taking 2 lifts once you know the route ).
Always managed to find a car parking space in the garages which with lift access is helpful.
The best bit is the most amazing and attentive staff you will ever find! Amy at reception is simply the nicest person you could meet and appeared to genuinely remember us from our last visit or at least from our emails at the time of booking. Her friendliness is worth staying here regardless of the quality of the accommodation.
Anne, the manager is also fantastic and went out of her way to make sure our young kids were entertained, giving them toys to borrow during their stay.
In addition to toys to borrow they also have DVDs for a gold coin donation as well as books to borrow.
Their is Internet access in the foyer for a small honesty payment and free wifi in the apartments, although you do have to ask for a tocken.
Only minor gripe is unlike our last visit, the apartment did not appear to have working underoor heating (it was still on in the bathroom) - we did mention this at reception. Regardless, there was a gas heater in the apartment and the apartment was warm.
Not the cheapest place in QT but not the dearest either and considering what it offers in terms of staff, quality, space and location, still our recommendation and can't wait to return!

Thank you so much for a wonderful review and thank you for mentioning the small hill or incline. I would say there has only been a small number of people that have found it hard work.

I will pass on your review to Amy who we also think is amazing.

Hope to see you back here soon.

Kind regards

Anne

This was the highlight, in terms of accomodation, for our trip...close and convenient to the Queenstown Mall and the lake. The apartment was so spacious and beautifully appointed. We got a great deal through wotif....Loved Queenstown itself...just magic!

We stayed here in February 2012 with my fiance and his parents. The four of us had booked a 2-bedroom apartment but were kindly upgraded when we arrived - to the 4-bedroom penthouse apartment with a large balcony, a smaller one, full kitchen and two bathrooms! At no extra charge, with the understanding that we take out our own trash and are not given fresh towels (tiny tiny concession for the generous upgrade!). We had beautiful view of Lake Wakatipu from the balcony and the town was just a 10 minute walk down the hill (that's the only con: we had to walk up that hill upon return, but it's a very short walk). I can't say enough about the Glebe Apartments - we stayed 4 nights and wish we could have stayed longer.

We have stayed here 3 times in 4 years, and tried other Queenstown hotels. This is the best by far for location, room size, and great staff. Will always stay here (if we can get in)

My family (four adults and 2 children) have just returned home today after 6 wonderful days and nights at The Glebe in Queenstown. Our original booking was made with Amy the receptionist (over the phone from Australia). Amy was so helpful, thoroughly explaining the rate options, with and without daily servicing etc. We were thrilled with our 3 bedroom 3 bathroom apartment that she arranged for us. On our arrival Helen was most welcoming and gave us a lot of good information that we found most useful throughout our stay. All of the staff, including 'Skye and Ginnie', were delightful. We had spectacular views of the mountains from our apartment. The apartment was wonderfully spacious, spotlessly clean and had gorgeous new carpet. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very well appointed. The baby cot was spotlessly clean and in perfect condition. The under floor heating and heated towel rails in the bathrooms were an unexpected treat. Regarding kitchen equipment/amenities....the kitchen did not disappoint. It was more than adequately equipped with everything we needed to whip up a meal when not dining in one of Queenstown's many restaurants. The location is fantastic. Just a short walk from the mall, restaurants/pubs, a local supermarket and a liquor store. A great property and location if travelling with small children. Thank you to all at The Glebe for your kindness and for contributing to our very enjoyable stay in spectacularly beautiful Queenstown.

Room Tip: Room 402 is a great 3 Bedroom Apartment with views of the mountains and gondola.

What a fantastic review.

I feel I have the best staff in Queenstown, they really care about our guests and it is lovely for them to read such a great review.

We are always trying to improve the apartments and this takes place over the quiet month of June. Come back next year and stay in apartment 402 and see all the added extras the owner has planned.

Skye and Ginni enjoyed your company as well. They have quite a stressful position here as you saw meeting, greeting and sitting by the fire.

Hope to see you back soon.

Kind regards

Anne, Amy, Helen and the A team.

My wife and I toured the South Island for 16 days, and spent a full 6 nights in The Glebe as part of the trip.

First let's start with the positives.

The location really is excellent and allows easy walking access into Queenstown. Free parking is also a bonus (but we never paid more than a dollar or two for parking anywhere in South island anyway, so upside here is limited.). The only downside with the location is that very steep hill to get up to the Glebe's entrance - I am young and relatively fit, but crikey it's a steep hill. Be warned! Also note we were in Q'town for a wedding so had a lot of friends in town who were staying elsehwere, usually further out in cheaper places. They complained how expensive taxis were, and those who had hired a car, how awful parking in Q'town was, so the location of The Glebe is great, and the lack of need for taxis should be offset agtainst the price.

Another positive is the staff and service. Check in was a breeze, as was check out. We had a few issues inside the apartment (DVD not working due to faulty cables etc) but when mentioned to staff these were immediately fixed. We also had an issue with the door closing properly, but that too was resolved within 12 hours. Very good service overall.

We liked the self-contained style too, and made good use of the washer and dryer units.

Finally, the bed is very comfortable and therefore sleep quality is good. We experienced none of the noise issues others report, but we were further up the hill and the bedroom was facing into the courtyard.

Now let's touch on what we perceived to be the downsides.

We booked a discounted room through a website, and were only informed at check in that this meant we wouldn't have our apartment serviced. This was disappointing as we felt we had been slightly misled in this respect. I guess the advice is to be careful when booking if you expect servicing. It doesn't always come as standard.

Secondly, this was the most expensive place we stayed in for the whole trip and yet the additional money didnt seem to get us anything significantly better than we had experienced elsewhere. I guess it's possible that Queenstown itself is more expensive than the rest of South Island, but I dont feel this place represents particularly good value for money.

Lastly is just that our overall feeling was that the place was a bit tired and run down. It could have used a lick of paint in places, the lifts weren't in the best of condition, and whilst the apartments were clean enough, there was a general feeling of "cheap and cheerful" in terms of the fitout of the rooms themselves. Not what we really expected for the (albeit discounted) price.

Overall I just feel that The Glebe is nothing more than "average", and have therefore rated accordingly. I might well return, but would probably look at other central hotels (Crowne Plaza in particular) a lot more carefully before committing ourselves.

Room Tip: Quieter bedrooms are on higher floors, further up the hill and facing the courtyard.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We enjoyed all your positive remarks.

I am sorry you missed the wording on the last minute deal site and documentation that the apartment deal was with no daily housekeeping as it is clearly stated on all sites.

Stanley Street is a steep street and lucky for us we are at the bottom of the street. There is a small incline at the base of the street. Our website and video show this clearly.

I am picking you stayed prior to June and prior to our upgrading of hallway carpets, apartment carpet and painting of hallways.

We get so many complements regarding the furnishings as they are classic and comfortable, however everyone has different tastes in furnishings.

I hope you enjoy your next stay in our lovely town.

Kind regards

We stayed for three nights in a 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom courtyard view apartment. It was very spacious, clean, full laundry and had everything you would need in the full sized kitchen. Walking distance to town. The receptionist (Amy) was only more than happy to help in any way - wifi, booking our Gondala ride, show and dinner and even cuddles every time we walked through reception for our 5 year old boy. I have already recommended these apartments to anyone thinking of heading to Queenstown. We shall return!! PS will try and upload photos soon
