We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in November 2012. The hotel is rather dated with an old furniture and an ancient TV. Our stay there was ok, but our room faced the main road. So, it was quite noisy and lacked privacy because there was a car park right in front our only window/sliding door. The bed was quite comfortable, which was good. But the quality of sleep was very poor because the radiator in the room kept making banging noises at night. The location was also ok, as it was a bit too far from the town in terms of walking distance. Overall, we wouldn't stay there again.

Stayed for three nights, the breakfast that phill the host made was super. And lynley went out her way to ensure I was looked after throughout the journey to middle earth. No issues at all friendley folk and got to know their kids well with a BBQ out back, that Clayton fella sure was a hoot with his blow up sheep. From Benny

Benny, thank you for the review that you posted on trip advisor. Phils cooked breakfast are pretty good and yes our family like to be involved when they can. Hopefully we will be able to host you again.

We stayed at the Earnslaw Lodge just after Christmas for a week, it's a very popular time in Queenstown so we snapped up this room quickly as it was the last one available. Our expectations were fairly low, the price was very reasonable and the photos on the website made it look a little dated, but as soon as we arrived we were pleasantly suprised. Things are a bit retro but in a good way, the lodge has a bit of personality and is definitely warm and inviting. The views from the lounge / bar area over the lake are beautiful and the views from our room were equally impressive. We had a kitchen studio with a lake view, the kitchen was well equipped with utensils, coffee plunger (and plunger coffee), kettle of course (and tea / sugar etc), electric fry pan, pots, pans, everything you could need to make a good meal - and there was a rangehood which was great because the room didn't smell like a room people cooked in all the time, which was a bonus - since it was a studio, everything is in the same room. It was very spacious with 1 queen bed, 1 single, a table and 4 chairs, another armchair, a large desk / side table with the TV on it, large wardrobe and space for suitcase. The bathroom was fine too, with separate toilet within. The only downside, was the balcony outside the room ran the width of the building so the room next door would use it to get to their room and therefore walk right outside ours (which was on the end), so we had to be mindfull about getting changed with the curtains open etc not a big deal really, but if you want total privacy, these rooms probably aren't for you. On the last night of our stay the temperatures dropped and it actually snowed but the radiator on the wall was great and we were toasty and warm in no time, there are also lots of extra blankets in the wardrobe too. Its also just a 5 min walk to town, which means you get a quiet sleep but can be in the heart of Queenstown night life after a brief stroll through the gardens - no car needed! (and no needing to find a carpark!) The owners were wonderful, very friendly and helpful - even getting our dinner for us one night when we were engrossed in a jigsaw puzzle in the lounge after day of rain. They made our stay really enjoyable and I would definitely stay at the Earnslaw Lodge again.

Room Tip: If you want privacy, the rooms on the ground floor (lake facing) are not ideal because of the shared...

We were on our honeymoon. We had stayed in a studio with lake view. The view is breathtakingly beautiful - at times we felt that we were living in a picture postcard! There is also a long balcony facing the lake. This more than made up for the fact that this was located 10 minutes from the city centre.

The room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Along with the regular TV channels, there is also an in-house movie channel. The owners have a pretty big collection and do take requests.

Saving the best for last - the owners are very hospitable and went out of their way to help us. For instance, while I was there, my shoe sole came off and Philip, the owner, actually put it together using glue. His wife (Sorry, I forgot her name) made sure that we were having a good time and ensured that we knew the best places to go to. While we encountered friendly and helpful people everywhere in NZ, these two stand out.

We stayed here for one night before departing on the Milford Track, and therefore just needed a place to sleep, cheaply. This fit the bill. The room was clean and comfortable. We did not upgrade to a lake view and faced the road. The location is several blocks away from the downtown, up a hill, which did not pose a problem for us as we were prepping for much more hiking, but may be something to consider for a longer stay.

Thank you for the comments about your stay at Earnslawlodge. We try to accommodate everybody to their satisfaction. The hill is a bit of a steep one but there is another route to take that isnt so challenging. As you say this was just a starter for you before the hike. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in New Zealand

We had expected much less, due to the cost, and especially in Queenstown. We were however, very pleased with our room. The owners are so friendly and helpful, we really felt at home, and reluctant to leave. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. We had a terrific view across the lake, a balcony, and there was everything here that we needed. This motel is well placed, within minutes from the town centre, with a bus stop outside, and from the rear, there is access to a lovely walk along the lakeside.
We stayed for 3 nights, and the whole stay was enjoyable and extremely good value.

Maggie, it is nice to hear that we made your holiday in Queenstown enjoyable. The views of the lake are rather something. The rooms are spacious. The bus is handy if you have had a meal in town and not into walking home. Hope that you had an enjoyable Christmas.

Thank you

By far the best accommodation we stayed in for our 2 weeks in New Zealand. Upon arrival we'd been upgraded from a Courtyard view room to the Lake view room - and what a view!

Kitchenette was handy for cooking dinner one night and big breakfast's, and a massive radiator to keep us warm as it wasn't too warm outside when we arrive, think it only ever got to 11 degrees celsius. Lynley is a fantastic host, as is her husband Phil who we only met on checking out. She was always asking what we'd done in the day, how it was, and what we had planned next, and had helpful tips, such as where to shop for groceries, and the best way to book onto tours. She was never intrusive either.

Location is fantasic as well, aside from the stunning view it's only a 10 minute walk into Queenstown, which is in my opinion the best city in New Zealand. Far enough away from the bars, but close enough to not need the car to drive in.

Wish we could've stayed in Queenstown and at the Earnslaw lodge for longer!
