“Sofitel luxury as expected but no atmosphere or warmth....”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

Stayed at this hotel as love the quality of the Sofitel group. Tbh not sure i d agree with the other recent reviews.... I did nt find reception staff particularly friendly or helpful.... the communal areas of the hotel were completely unoccupied whenever i passed and i did nt see a concierge or have the main door opened for me once during my 3 night stay. These are little things , but in Queenstown there are so many fantastic activities incuding paragliding, jetboats, hiking and horseriding... the short amount of time you are in the hotel you expect great 5 star service and hospitality.
For this reason I would choose a different hotel on my next visit... probably one on the lakefront..

Room Tip: i had a room at the back of the hotel... need to be on high floor to avoid being below ground level...

Luxurious hotel in Queenstown. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the executive floor and the room was awesome! Big and fancy! We will definitely go back and highly recommended if you're in Queenstown. The staff can assist you in all the possible activities that best suit you and your family. Plus Sofitel is located at the heart of Queenstown, walking distance to all establishments.

I had my groom's party and bridal party stay at the Sofitel Queenstown in February and we couldn't really have asked for much more. The staff were hospitable, welcoming and courteous. The suites were large, modern and packed with amenities. The concierge effortlessly brought items to the rooms on request. Complimentary champagne was sent up to the suite in the morning to settle my nerves. I loved the yoghurt shots for breakfast. Our morning treatments in Le Spa were perfect. A wonderful hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter but there aren't bad rooms.

Had a quick 2 night jaunt to Queenstown for our honeymoon. Lovely from the moment we stepped in. Mentioned that we had just got married the day before and straight away, organised for 2 glasses of champagne for us while sitting at reception being checked in...

It's a nice central location in queenstown but unfortunately doesn't have a view of the lake. If this was your first visit here you might find that disappointing but as we have been to Queenstown a number of times it was fine for us on this occasion. We didn't have any problems with noise, apart from a bit of early morning delivery trucks perhaps?

We had a very nice suite on the corner of the hotel on a lower floor. Bed was very comfortable and we were nice and warm... which was good because while we were there (in the height of summer I might add) the temperature plummeted overnight to 2 degrees C. Brrr.

Staff all seemed very pleasant and helpful. We had drinks included in the bar downstairs as par of our room deal but it was kind of a bit odd as one side of the bar was for paying guests and the other for the "club" members (Or whatever we were). I did think the bar staff could have been a bit more attentive about clearing glasses and rubbish from the tables.

All in all, a nice stay. I probably wouldnt stay here again though as I feel that it was just a touch overpriced. I'd prefer a lake view room for the price.

This is a nice hotel in an awesome location right in the middle of town but you pay for that location with downtown party noise depending on your room. I'm not sure I'd say it is worth the cost with all the other options available and definitely not worth the sleepless nights. If you are in a room facing the Buffalo Club nightclub which is on the lake end of the hotel aka the nicer suite rooms expect the noise to last until 2-3am. It doesn't matter if the club has its doors closed or not and its not just a weekend or "at times it can be noisy" as the management suggests - it was middle of the week and it was consistently LOUD. We were told we could complain and they would call the police but there really isn't anything to be done - its just an unfortunate location literally on top of some of the Sofitel rooms. It also does not help that the restaurant was right below our room and they were constantly moving tables and then did a loud cleaning at 6am (along with the garbage trucks that arrive pre-dawn). If you are a heavy sleeper or one of the partiers yourself then you won't be bothered. But for our family of four it was unbearable.

I will say that the manager seemed genuinely concerned at our dissatisfaction and tried everything to appease us. He offered to move rooms right away with the first complaint in the morning but since we had 2 adjoining rooms and hated the thought of moving for just 1 night ... we declined. He also offered us free breakfast which was very nice and we did accept that (our boys were already free with our hotel deal). Contrary to other reviewers we thought the service was very good - in fact, they really wanted to make it up to us for our sleepless nights. They minimally needed to double pane their glass but not even sure that would help - it is really a shame as the room was lovely - during the day. I am sure the other rooms on the quieter end of the hotel are fine - AVOID room 326, 327 and any rooms on that end of the hotel (these would probably be offered as "upgrades" - go look out your window before accepting).

On a side note I know this is a French hotel chain but like other reviewers I also thought hearing the local Kiwis saying "Bon jour" was a bit much and felt really put on and pretentious. Just my opinion.
