We spent a few nights at the Sofitel recently. Overall it was a nice stay but if I'm being honest, I should point out a couple of things.

1. The rooms were cold. Our heater didn't work. It was freezing outside and the room wasn't much warmer. The balcony doors don't seal properly and a breeze came through them.
2. The gym was closed the whole time we were there.
3. The views are really average for the price of the hotel. We were on a high level but overlooked cars parked in a street and rundown houses.
4. We had breakfast included in our rate but on our first morning the cafe staff didn't explain that there was a buffet as well as a menu you could order off. We were a bit confused. Coffee is really average too.
5. The rooms are clean enough, except when we were checking out we pulled the cupboard out to make sure we'd dropped nothing behind it and found a whole lot of papers and rubbish that weren't ours.

But on a positive....

1. The service is AMAZING. Every single staff member is friendly and polite. The concierge helped us out quite a few times during our stay and was always pleasant. We had drinks in the lounge each evening and the staff member in there was delightful. I wish I could steal him to work for me. The vibe in the lounge mixed with friendly service was a perfect end to a long day (plus it was warm in the lounge compared to our room). You really do feel like a VIP at the hotel.
2. We also had breakfast included in our rate. It had nice touches like the chef bringing around different things to try each morning. Nice food.
3. I loved the french inspired decor.
4. They have a business centre which you can use 24/7. It was handy.
5. Location really couldn't be more perfect. What it lacks in views, it makes up in location, so close to everything.

Overall, I still enjoyed our stay but I couldn't justify that rate again. I'd choose another hotel next time. If you can secure a good rate, go for it. It's still a nice hotel with amazing service if that's what you're looking for. Happy travels!

Just returned from a 10 day stay in a Premier Suite at the Sofitel Queenstown. The service was amazing with those ymembers of the staff that love what they do and it can be clearly seen (Jene, Nina, Kim, Nicholas). They went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. The room was great witht he perks being the TV above the spa, heated bathroom floors, and the great living room space. There were a few downsides to the hotel but not enough to deter us from staying there again: the views are not as nice as some of the other hotels in queenstown; housekeeping was not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel (they left cleaning supplies one day); bed was a little too soft for our liking; breakfast buffet was not as varied (half way into our stay we were told that we can order whatever we want but that was not explained to us until we got bored). Again, these are very minor issues that I would gladly put up with again because the service of those mentioned staff were amazing.

Great hotel. Central location and in the town. We had two rooms on the 5th floor. One looked out the back to the hill - not an amazing view, but not awful. Our other room looked over the town to the snow-capped mountains. The rooms were large, and having a little balcony makes them feel larger. Furniture was all good (even the possum throw) and the beds were SO comfortable. Heating was good, including the bathroom floor. The bar was nice and we even had room service there one night. The spa is truly lovely, with well-trained staff, although the after-facial push to buy products is strong. The gym is disappointing - surely they could do better than a bike, free weights and a rower. Not even a treadmill! The breakfasts and lunches were good and the French Onion Soup was the best ever. The steak restaurant is outstanding.
My only real complaint is the wifi - we spent $30 a day for 1BG and got 300MB at normal speed, then it slows down. Really really disappointing and way too expensive.
On the good side, maid service ensured the rooms were cleaned really well each day. Concierge service was outstanding. Brian and the rest of the team were always happy and friendly, with excellent, knowledgable advice. The Manager made a point of welcoming us and also farewelling us - he was genuinely interested in our stay. The staff is a real strength of the hotel. We would recommend it to our friends and will be staying here next time we are in Queenstown.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the town and mountains.

We recently stayed at the superb Sofitel in Queenstown, the staff were excellent as were the rooms and guest amenities. No request was too much right down to checking the airport status for us regularly through the storm that hit the South Island.
I want the playlist of music playing in the Business Centre!
