Owner description: Check out the underwater inhabitants of Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown Underwater Observatory. See the diving ducks, massive trout and slinky eels just metres from the lakeshore. Conveniently located on the Main Town Pier at the lake, the Underwater Observatory offers fascinating and informative entertainment for all ages in all weather. Feeding the fish offers excitement for the fish, as well as the viewers. Two species of trout are on display - the Brown imported from Europe around 100 years ago and the Rainbow, a North American import. Scaup Ducks dive among the fish for food while the NZ Long Finned Eel gliding through the water could live up to 90 years and weigh up to 16 kilos (35lbs)! Underwater Observatory is possibly the best value attraction available in Queenstown.

This is only worth visiting if you get a deal or voucher, others its a waste. It's very difficult to find as there's hardly any signage, very poor on their part.

Once you arrive, there's only one wall with some windows to look out. For $1 you can release some food for the fish, which the ducks mostly eat, I think maybe one or two fish got a pellet. There are Rainbow trout, Brown Trout, Salmon and Eels that can be viewed, but we only saw Rainbow trout and one eel.

There are loads of ducks which are cool to see swimming under water, however as mentioned, they mostly eat all the pellets if you pay the $1 to release them.

Probably worth about 10 minutes of your time, but don't go paying good money to view the "attraction" as it's not worth it.

Just someone trying to make a buck out of an opportunity but certainly not worth paying for.

This little place is hard to find on the harbour of the lake. We only knew it was there and tried to find it because it was in the guide book. Its pretty cheap and you go underneath the lake and can put money in a machine which sends out food for the fish. You get a good view of what fish are in the lake, with some great views of enormous eels!

Not the best thing you'll see in Queenstown but a fun thing to do to see whats underneath that pretty lake.

This shouldn't be aloud to call an aquarium.
It's just a room under the water wich let you see some grey fish swimming around in the harbour.
There is an eele, but it's not very interesting.

You can put coins in a machine who releases pellets for the fish, if you want to waste more money.

little space under water and see some fish, for people from australia, it is not attractive at all, especially if you have been to cains before. the charges were not cheap.
