“working with invasive species”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

Seeing Kiwis that are endangered, was a learning experience presented in a very interesting program. To learn that the Kiwi is endangered by the introduction of the Australian possum was just one of several facts presented by the park staff. The staff interacted well with visitors creating a very enjoyable experience.

“Go here”

Loved this place. Takes about two hours. You wear headphones to hear the info about each stop. The conservation show is excellent. Saw animals I’ve never seen before including the Kiwi. Even the trees were impressive.

We learned so much on our visit, including how large Kiwis actually are! It was lovely to see conservation in action and such dedicated staff.

“Finally go to see a Kiwi”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

This is a small exhibit that has several Kiwi's. I wish we could have taken pictures but understand about spooking the birds.

Thanks for the review and for understanding our policy on no photography in our nocturnal houses. We do release all of our kiwi into the wild so their welfare is paramount. Kia ora

“Great way to spend an hour or so”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

When you need a break from all the adrenaline rush activities, this is a great way to spend an hour or so. There are two houses where the kiwi birds are kept. They're nocturnal, so the houses are very dark. Plus, you can't take photos. There are also a lot of other cool birds to check out. I'm not a bird person myself, but I enjoyed learning about all the different types on the two islands. Plus, there's a section where you can learn about Maori cooking styles and traditions. Some may find it pricey, but I felt like, with how expensive everything is in general here, it was a very fair price. There were several endangered birds in there, and I felt good knowing my money was going to help them. Plus, I saw a kiwi bird!

What a lovely review...thanks! As most of our species are very rare, and are all here as part of managed programs to help to safeguard their future, we do have to charge a price that enables us to provide the best possible care for all of our animals. We are delighted to hear your feedback and that you enjoyed your visit. Kia ora
