“Not bad, but not very good either”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

The Bella Vista is a typical Kiwi motel, with a great location an easy short walk from central Queenstown. It is modern in design and quality, and on the face of it seems to have a lot to recommend it.

But when you transition from admiring the glossy brochure to actually staying at the property, you uncover some disappointments.

* Not real soap in bathroom - instead, it has those awful liquid dispensers for both hand basin and shower.
* Only shower, no bath
* Water temperature in shower randomly goes hot and cold while you are taking a shower
* Very poor dim lighting
* Only two easy chairs for a unit that claims to sleep four
* Internet costs a rapacious $25 for 1 GB, $15 for 500 MB. Total ripoff.
* A toll-free phone call was charged 52c. Another total ripoff.
* You have to insert your key-fob to turn on the master power switch - a hassle if you want to leave a computer on, or the heater on so the unit isn't very cold when you return
* The cleaning woman barged into the room without knocking, then didn't apologize for doing so. 'Oh, I thought you'd gone out' was what she said; no idea why she would think that with our car immediately outside.
* A very unfriendly sign above the kitchen area rather destroyed any pretense at positivism (see photo)

Note that the motel was sold at the end of August. This review related to the last couple of nights under the old owner; it is possible the new owner might charge some of the policies and put decent lightbulbs into the units, etc. :)

Stayed here for 7 nights with friends in August. We came for a last minute trip to do some skiing.

We booked the cheapest room which was the compact studio I think and it was perfect. The room is small but we didn't go to Queenstown to sit in the room! The bed was big, bathroom was bigger than expected, we had a fridge, kettle, toaster and some cutlery etc, wardrobe and TV. Beds had electric blankets and the heater warmed up the room really well! Also had heated towel racks. There is a drying room for your ski gear as well which was great.

Staff on check in were excellent, willing to answer and questions you have and give you tips on where to go and what to do. Only a few minutes walk into town, noticed lots of car spaces if you had one. Rooms were cleaned everyday, they cleaned our cutlery if we used it as there was no kitchen sink. Bus stop is less that 100m down the road to get the bus to the slopes which was perfect for us, also noticed a lot of other tour buses picking people up from here.
A lot of other hotels are up on the hill, this one isn't, so no big hike up from the town!

Would maybe go a bigger room next time purely to have the cooking facilities to save money on eating out. Other than that no probs and I will be coming back to Bella Vista on my next visit!

Room Tip: The rooms on the 2nd floor have a good view :)

Just dropped into Bella Vista for our last night in NZ. We were greeted with a warm welcome, friendly chat and heaps of helpful advice, plus some excellent information on plans for our future trips. The facilities are fantastic and the location is great. We will definitely be using Bella Vista again.

These little apartments are great value and fantastically located. Walking distance into town, supermarket and gourmet deli, it's perfect for either a quiet night in, or a big night out. Apartment/rooms are very tidy and comfortable, with a separate drying room for ski/snowboarding gear. Very helpful staff who are a wealth of local knowledge for places to do/eat. Would recommend this place for location and value. :)

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Geoff who was very friendly and informative, providing us with some quick and useful information about the local area. Our room was a compact studio which, in real life, was larger than the photos made it look and had all the features that we could need including facilities to make our own breakfast. Both the room and bathroom were very clean. The room was warm and the bed comfortable.

The Bella Vista is about a five minute walk from the centre of Queenstown and 3 minutes walk from a good supermarket. It was the perfect place to stay for us as we wanted to explore the town without having to take cabs or buses.

We would highly recommend the Bella Vista for the clean and well-equipped rooms, friendly staff and good proximity to the town & would certainly stay here again.

We stayed at the Bella Vista on a Friday, we caught the shuttle for $26 flat rate for two people that dropped us off right outside the hotel. Because we got there early they allowed us to leave our bags there while we took a stroll to town, only about a 3 min walk. We had board bags that were quite large and the manager said we could leave them with him as the room was really small. We had a compact studio and thought hmm maybe, but when we got there it wasnt compact at all. Compared to a hotel room in Auckland it would be the same size. There was plenty of room for the board bags and to walk around the room. So really i thought it was on the bigger side of compact. It was really clean and the bathroom was a good size.
This is a great price for being so handy to town. The bed was comfy. Really quiet and we're going back again for New Years. The manager on duty was really friendly and i also had great communication via email from the owners ! Thanks Bella Vista Queenstown!

Room Tip: IF you need a little more room maybe get the size up from the compact.

I only stayed here one night. I was delighted when I arrived early expecting to have to store my bags and return later that the room was ready. The room was cosy with good basic cooking amenities. Nice touch that you get given a fresh bottle of milk, trim or whole your choice. I found the Internet's mb usage to dwindle quite fast but got given $5 worth free.
The walk to town is a matter of a few minutes, there isn't too much tv channel choice such as no movie channels etc but if your there to visit queenstown then I imagine you will be participating in activities during the day and experiencing the dining and nightlife in the evening so shouldn't be too much trouble!
