For the last three years we have stayed here as we have two older teenagers and the cost in Queenstown can be outrageously expensive!
We are not cheepskates, but find it incredibly frustrating to find accomodation that is well located, warm, cost effective, provide full kitchen facilities and allows for an eclectic mix of patrons that all members of the family can enjoy!
The Queenstown YHA has a 2 bedroom unit that ticks all the boxes. It's not flash, but it's well appointed, clean, warm, excellent bathroom facilities and right on the lakefront!
Our kids love it (bus leaves for Coronet Peak in the morning from the front door), staff are brilliant (young, happy, friendly - kind of reminds me of the days when my wife and I were young!)
Occasionally there is a bit of noise from the guests (do you blame them?) having a bit of fun.
Seriously - if you have teenage (or older) kids and you want to have a ball in a cost effective family unit (nobody knows about the 2BR unit!), this is the place - you will NOT be disappointed!!! Full kitchen facilities (Oven/Microwave etc etc)

Room Tip: Get in quick and book early for the ski season (we have already booked for 2013!)

In the right location, facing the lake, and just a 10 minutes scenic walk to the city centre! Inside is just a hostel, the single room I was given, was very basic, with means, just the bed. The walls are too thick and the room became noise on the rush ours. Some car park available Staff were great and helpful, overall a good hostel, worth to stay.

There are two YHA hostels in Queenstown. We chose this because we have a car to travel. There are plenty of street parking and about 7 car parks in their property. Town centre is walking distance along the lake and it is good to stay away from the noisy town centre.

We stayed in 4 bunk dorm. The receptionist was happy to put us in the room with another Korean girl instead of 8 bunk dorm, even we had two free night vouchers which you can get from YHA NZ if you buy annual membership. Actually the joint membership fee is $60 and it paid for our stay here ($27 x 2persons)!! Great!!

The kitchen was clean, tidy and so huge compare to all European hostels where we traveled last three months. We are really impressed.

Only one disappointment was duct noise (or air conditioner?) on and off all the night. So my girl friend couldn't sleep in well.

This is the first time for me to try this type of accommodation. One word: Excellent.

Place: near to wharf. very good view as the name – lakefront. Kitchen is tidy and water pressure for shower is good. Excellent management!

People: Staff is very helpful and friendly. People from different countries are very friendly and tidy. Everyone cleans up kitchen once finished the meal. Good influence.

Other: far away from cheaper supermarket – Fresh Choice

Room Tip: the room with deck is quite nice but may too small. you can see mountain peak covered by snow and la...

I love this place and have probably stayed far too long,
It's the cheapest hostel in town at $20.70 a night for members,
the kitchen and social areas are amazing and have so much space,
The views from the hostel are amazing and location is just far enough from town to be quiet but is less than 10min walk,
only negatives internet is expensive and even though the dorms are nice and really clean they could do with a bit of updating,
I'll be back

Really enjoyed our stay here. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were good and clean. The whole hostel felt clean. Staff were very friendly. Close enough to town to walk but still in a beautiful location on the lake. Would definitely stay here again. Free wifi would make it the perfect hostel!
