Matakauri is a very special place, perfect for the occasion we were celebrating. We enjoyed a wonderful two night stay & felt totally pampered & spoiled! Top class food, impeccable service & a room with one of the best views in the world. If I wanted to be picky, my only slight irritation was that no wine was inclusive in the package. We have stayed in a same class lodge in Australia where local wines were included, even in the room mini bar.

Great location, great service, great food and wine.

What could possibly be missing? We were enthusiastically greeted my the manager and two staff members. We were informed that we were the first people to ever arrive on a motorcycle.

The setting, nestled in the mountains and overlooking the lake, is beautiful. No matter what our request, the staff were ready, willing and enthusiastic to help. We're we're treated to fabulous gourmet meals with some great wines.

If you want the best, this is a must stay.

Room Tip: They're all good.

My husband and I spent 5 glorious days at the Matakauri Lodge. The setting of the lodge is spectacular. It's set on the hillside overlooking Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables as its backdrop. Our suite felt like a home. The bathtub had the best view ever. More importantly, the service was outstanding. There is nothing that the staff won't do for you. Everyone is so nice and accommodating. Just an example, before coming to the lodge, I had requested a recording of the Red Carpet oscars show. As soon as we arrived at the lodge, we were told that we were set to dine in the library, just the two of us, and that comfortable chairs would be set up by the television for us to view the show whenever we liked. It was wonderful. Jay Robertson runs 3 lodges in New Zealand. We started out at Kauri Cliffs and loved it and ended up at the Matakauri and loved it too. Both lodges had incredible food that any "foodie" would love.

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful. We stayed in number 10 and loved it.

Just had to join in the chorus of wonderfuls. The other reviews say it all-wonderful staff, views are sublime(didn't want to get out of my tub, it overlooked the Remarkables and the lake,). Breakfast outside (weather permitting) was fantastic. Just lovely, lovely place to stay, and yet not far (by car)from Queenstown, when you want a little more action or need to buy stuff, unlike the other superluxury resort in the general area
And check out the other property owned by the same people at Hawkes Bay/Cape Kidnappers-also an AMAZING place

We spent three nights here as part of our honeymoon and it was the most unforgettable experience. The lodge, the rooms, the service and the food are all second to none. The staff were warm, accommodating and lovely to talk to. They even remembered specific details like what drinks we liked and dietary requirements. The food deserves a special mention also, It was a highlight of the trip and was as good as we have had in many Michelin star restaurants.

My congratulations to Sean and his staff for offering a truly first class resort. Thank you.

Room Tip: Rooms separate to the main lobby are quieter and more private.
