“Great hotel, super friendly staff!”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

It's been a few months since we visited but I still remember how friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help the staff was. The location is amazing -Queenstown is marvellous in general-, the hotel great in terms of high standards in service, cleanliness, attitude, amenities and view. I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Lake view room for sure ;)

Make sure you get a room with a view over the lake and the Remarkables - otherwise you get to see a wall. If the view doesn't matter, then all is good. Great view from bar and dining areas. Nice location for an easy 2 minute walk to town (uphill on the way back though!). Rooms were spacious, although the bathrooms were looking tired and had a shower in the bath. Dinner was fantastic, with amazing desserts. They have a dining room (which could get noisy with kids) BUT offer another, nicer room next door for adults/older kids only, which has a fire and was great. It was also where we had breakfasts and pre-dinner drinks if the bar was too crowded. Service could be a little sporadic (waiting quite a while to get a menu or a drink) but also could be efficient & friendly (front desk and Concierge - thanks!). Nice little gym. Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Pay for that view!

Friendly staff, very keen to help you maximise your stay. Great food and service. .Picturesque setting overlooking lake and mountains, beautifully appointed room. Not all rooms have a view which is clearly stated in their brochure. Don't let the lack of view put you off a great time in this hotel with experienced and personable staff. We stayed seven days. Planning to return with our adult children.

The st moritz is a fine hotel in a good location. In all 'fine' sums up this hotel. There is no 'wow factor' in the rooms the bar or restaurant but equally there are no issues either. We enjoyed the stay and if the price stayed the same would stay again. The staff are friendly the rooms functional and clean. The restaurant has great views but a very limited dinner menu. The hot tubs are a novel touch. In all 'fine'

We stayed for 3 nights in early February and were disappointed with several things related to our stay. We had a small suite and it was tired and the furnishings were not interesting. We had a lake view which was lovely but the windows are quite small. It was warm in our room and the air circulation was poor. They placed fans in our room but it was never quite comfortable.
The hotel was pricey and breakfast was available for us with discount coupons. We purchased the coupons but I would not recommend doing this. Two of the three mornings we went to breakfast early because of scheduled tours and we encountered large tour groups eating at exactly the same time which made everything very challenging and upsetting. The good tables with lake views were understandably taken and we had to wait for the buffet to be stocked because of the volume of people eating. Additionally, the food was quite average. On the last morning due to the crowd we asked to have part of the breakfast coupon fees rebated and they agreed after some negotiating.
The staff was very good and quite responsive. However, overall for the reasons outlined in this review, the hotel was a poor value and we would not return.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the gorgeous lake.

We stayed for 4 nights in May in a one bedroom suite tucked up on the top floor with a divine view of the lake and snow capped mountains - unable to fault. Small balcony and not sitting out weather but did have enough room for a small table and chairs. Excellent size suite for two with a kitchen, lounge area, huge king bedroom and massive bathroom. Decor slightly dated especially the bathroom with a excess of tan tiles and a poorly fitting shower door. Bed supremely comfortable. Suite also had a washer/dryer - fantastic after 3 weeks on the road. We made use of the bar at happy hour and again, worth it for the view. Also ate at the restaurant one evening and had an excellent meal with top quality service. The hotel is well located a short walk from the centre of Queenstown. It is up a slightly steep hill but we didn't have an issue with that after all the excellent NZ food and wine. A nod to the reception staff who where unfailingly helpful and ever obliging. Once again though, a loss of points for poor WiFi access - limited to 30min free/lobby/day. Not good when you have business needs to address. overall though, a good hotel, good service and a great comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Go up and lake side - that view is to die for
