“Lovely hotel, fantastic service”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

The st. Moritz was a lovely hotel to stay in which was only topped off my the fabulous service provided by staff.

The lobby or 'lounge room' as they refer to it is warm and welcoming (although sometimes smells of gas because of the fire). The cozy arm chairs are a perfect place to have a late night after dinner drink or take a rest from a busy day of skiing or snow boarding.
The restaruant is lovely for breakfast with the fantastic view of the lake and at night time the menu provides for simple or more exlusive diners.

The rooms themselves are quite spacious which is great if you wish to have a night in. The furnishing are modern yet cosy which was also good for a sore body or two!

Although some guests have complained about the hill, it is steep but taxis are abundant and none of them mind a short trip to much. In fact I would go as far as saying everyone who transported us in Queenstown was almost a tour guide!

The staff however are to be commended, the guest services desk was always there to help us with our booking be it for lift passes, calls to our travel agent or ski gear. Fantastic!

We would certainly go back here.

Room Tip: Aim for a room overlooking the lake! Anything on level four or above.

A small group of four shared what was referred to as a unit on the 5th floor. Essentially two generous rooms with the double connection door opened. The rooms had a verandah, and overlooked what is one of the most beautiful vistas I've seen, the lake and mountain back drop in Queenstown.
Staff were incredibly good, friendly, efficient and and there if you needed them. The rooms were beautiful, you could easily swing a cat in them, and all of the expected facilities were there. Hotplate, microwave, full complement of cooking utensils. But with all of the wonderful eating and drinking establishments in town, we didn't really need to put these things to the test.
You do need to be aware that free internet connection in the lobby is really poor. You only get 10 mb down load and 1/2 hour usage per day. You can however pay an extra $30 per day (from memory) to have full service, which we felt was a bit rich.
Sleep quality for this little precious reviewer was hampered due to a noisy aircon thermostat unit which would click like a key opening a door every hour or so. Did I complain to management? No. Maybe I should have, but everything else was so good, it kind of paled into insignificance.
There is a very short walk from town to the hotel lobby (maybe about 10 min), and it does involve an uphill challenge for about 100m. We found it helped a lot to have a pint of Guinness from Pog's or a chilli hot chocolate to give us the strength ;-)
For skiers there is a great holding bay for all of the wet cold ski gear from the end of the day. It's a secure holding room at the end of the driveway, so there is no need to go traipsing through the lobby dripping a mountain of melted snow. It also has a heating box for those wet gloves and scarves.

Room Tip: definitely ask for a lake view.

My fiance and I just came back from a four night stay at St Moritz as part of a holiday through work. We stayed in an amazing lake view room (623) that was both spacious and comfortable. The view was nothing short of amazing and we even had our own little balcony we could have a wine on and take in the view! The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was very nice, with super hot showers :) All in all we were very pleased with our stay. We only had one gripe, and its a tiny one at that and something that cannot be helped AT all. Whilst the hotel is a short walk IN to town, coming back is a slight mission as the hotel is on top of a small hill. Nothing major, you just get an extra work out on top of all that skiing when you come back to the hotel!

Our weekend stay was very enjoyable. Very comfortable bed and pillow. Great shower! Good size room and quiet. We only ate breakfast at the hotel. One of the best breakfasts we have had in a hotel. The hotel is only a short walk away from the wharf area of town. Will definitely stay again. Next time we will use the Sauna and try the packed lunch for any day trips we go on.

Room Tip: To enjoy the views pay for the higher floors. If you do you might not leave your room though :) Or...

Just come back from a week of Skiing in Queenstown. Being a member of the Accor Vacation Club, we stayed at the St Moritz and could not have done better.
Great Service, friendly staff. Sure you pay for parking, but it includes Valet parking, every day.
Our view was over the drive way - but we were there for different reasons.
The Hotel was quiet, well appointed and oozed Alpine Charme. Having said that, i thinnk the room we were in could do with some updating. Small black Tiles and dark red Granite Bench tops in the Bathrooms are bit yesterday. The King size Bed comprised of two beds pushed together and the Bed Linen was a bit of a battle, as it seemingly did not quite fit.
But this were the only negatives.
Food in the Restaurant is excellent, but pricy. Using our Advantage Card, it lessened the impact considerably. Normally we don't eat every Night in the Hotel and look for other options as well, but here we were so impressed with the food, we had 6 Dinners out of seven Nights.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and from all over the Globe. Had trouble spotting a Kiwi amongst the line up.
The hotel is ideally situated, 10 minutes leisurely stroll into town, a bit longer coming back, as you go up the Hill.
We'd stay there again and again.

Stayed here on a recent ski holiday to Queenstown with 3 teenage kids. The hotel was in a great location and had superb views. Was deciding between 3 places so emailed a series of questions to each. St Moritz came back the quickest and with the most helpful information - including an additional room type which was not available online. Decided to stay here based on this and wasn't disappointed. Everyone was very helpful and the ski transfers and locker worked well. Really enjoyed our stay here. Walked into town most nights to eat which was lovely along the lake.
Wouldn't recommend the in house restaurant as the food was overly complicated and not really up to the prices. And housekeeping let them down on occasion - twice the kitchen area of the room wasn't cleaned despite the rest being done.
But everything else was excellent.
