“excellent hotel in fantastic location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

I stayed in this hotel on a tour of New Zealand and it was fabulous. I had a view of the lake and Earnslaw paddle steamer from my bedroom window and it was an short, easy walk into the main town. The accomodation was huge, more of an apartment with two bedrooms (I was a solo traveller travelling with a tour group). Food was very good. This is where some of the 'Lord of the Rings' cast stayed during filming and while here I did a fantastic tour of some of the film locations (Nomad safaris) plus a jetboat ride on Shotover canyon. The town itself is quaint and very beautiful and the perfect base for touring the area. The lake is stunning with the mountains behind it and all sorts of extreme sports are available as well as leisurely boat tri[ps etc.

Room Tip: There are several rooms with panoramic views of the lake.

A huge mention must be made to the hotel management and all the staff. EVERY SINGLE staff member was truly attentive, engaged and eager to please. Effective management can work but unless the staff ENJOY their job it shows. Here it is evident that it is truly EVERY staff members desire to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. I was blown away. The rooms were large (we did have 2 suites). they were opulent but not gawdy, spacious yet intimate and all the amenties were of high quality. I think I have found my new favorite hotel!!!

Room Tip: If you cannot afford to pay extra for the lakeview - go for the rooms on level 1.(they open out into...

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at the St Moritz on our honey moon.

The hotel is close to town, only about 5-8 min walk up the hill. We were greeted by very friendly staff who assisted with our bags, and who supplied us with some excellent recommendations for dinner. The lobby is very nice with lounges and a gas fireplace.

Room 525 had an amazing view of the lake and mountains, which was a pleasure to wake up to each morning. The room was good, very clean, and comfortable, with good heating and a decent sized bath. The only negative was the flat panel TV which seemed old with a poor in house system which meant that some channels were full screen, while others were cut off and not full widescreen. The pixels on the panel were large and visible, though this may only have been on the panel in our room, time for an upgrade.

Buffet breakfast was very good with a wide selection and stunning views from the dining room. We had dinner at the restaurant once and while it was OK, we found there are better places to eat in town - try the bunker, it was the pick of the bunch for us!

Room Tip: 525 was great.

We stayed at St Moritz last weekend. The room was very spacious and well equipped and had a great view out over the lake. Reception area is a great meeting point with the open fire, and the bar area is great for having a drink before heading out into town. Very friendly staff so highly recommended.

We've all stayed in beautiful hotels, great location, great value, clean, blah blah blah. What makes a hotel go from good to great in my opinion is the people and this is where the St Moritz really shines. From the moment we arrived (with our 7mth old baby) to the moment we left the team were nothing short of exceptional. Genuinely nice people that weren't there to 'serve' you like in many places, but there to really look after you. 10 points team and thank you very much.
Only slightly negative is the food from room service via Lombardi restaurant. Not bad but just very average. Prices on the high side for what you actually get. I would never comment or quibble the cost if price equals performance but here they were slightly lacking. Breakfasts are fantastic but please, PLEASE get decent coffee. Fair trade organic please, not internationally bland and generic Douwe Egberts - yuck. Well made just crap beans. Thank you.

The location of the hotel is up a steep hill but it gives the hotel a great view of the mountains and lakes. It is only a short walk away from the central bus station in town and the airport connectabus cost NZD8.00 each way.

The staff are friendly and willing to assist with anything.

The room was quite large although I felt a lot of the space was wasted in the room as large hallway into room but the bed and furniture were crammed at one end of the room. The tv was massive! The sleigh bed was so comfortable and the bedding was super soft and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with shower over bath. There was only free wifi for 30 minutes in the lobby. If you wanted 24 hours in the room, the cost was NZD29.90 which in my mind is quite extortionate in this day in age as lots of hotels offer this service for free.

I would suggest going for lake view so take advantage of the scenery Queenstown has to offer as my room faced the front of hotel.

I would stay at this hotel again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Get the odd numbered room as even numbered rooms seem to face the front of hotel and driveway.
