Rydges Lakeland Resort Hotel Queenstown

A friend of mine and I came to Queenstown from Australia for a wedding. From the moment we walked through the doors at Rydges we were amazed with the great service, friendly staff & beautiful views. Steven the front office manager went out of his way to make our stay perfect and we really appreciate it. Ruby Jane was also amazing on front desk! The staff really went out of their way 110% of this time! The restaurant views, stunning! The food was also pretty great. The hotel is walking distance to town (5min) but also far enough away from the hustle and bustle that your sleep is not disturbed by party goers! Plenty to do in town for all ages! We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and will be recommending to all friends back home! Will be back next year!!!! Thank you again to all the amazing staff that helped make our stay an unforgettable one! :)

Room Tip: If you like privacy request a room away from ground level.

We stayed here for one night. They were very busy when we arrived at 5pm but they gave good personal attention to us and were very helpful. We requested the paper to be delivered free to our room for the next day which was done. Parking was full on the road level but we were told there was more parking available on the roof of Level 6. Levels 7 - 10 are in an attached building on top of Level 6.
Location was 5-10 minutes from the main town. There is a convenience store available opposite the Wharf Booking Office. Hotel is handy to all the action, food and shopping etc.
We had a superior Lake view room with a balcony on Level 10 which is the highest level. It was clean and comfortable with amazing views and a good size television. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate with a shower over the bath.
We had the bed and breakfast special and enjoyed a good buffet breakfast in a large dining room with excellent views of the Lake and the mountains. Queenstown is lovely in mid September with snow still capping the mountains and the beautiful blossoms on the trees.
We would use this hotel again especially for the convenience of location and views. Next time we would dine in for dinner at their restaurant.

Room Tip: Choose superior Lake front room on Level 10

The hotel is located about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the town centre, with bus stop (connectabus) directly out the front. Perfect distance for some peace from the party town atmosphere, yet close enough to everything. The staff I encountered were all very friendly and happy to assist with whatever they could. The common areas were all clean and fairly well maintained. My hotel room, a superior lake facing room, was very clean with the decor requiring a refresh and the bathroom nearing an upgrade perhaps. Being on a higher floor required the use of two separate lifts to access my room, this at times felt slightly tedious but did not detract from my stay. The onsite restaurant and bar are of a high standard and have great views of the mountains and lake, with food and beverage comparable in price to those in the town centre. The pool, spa and sauna are located directly next to the bar which deterred me from using these facilities preferring something with slightly more privacy. I would happily stay her again and recommend it to others visiting Queenstown seeking relaxed accommodation.

Room Tip: It is well worth paying the little extra for a Lake Facing room, these look directly on to the Remar...

All I can say is I was very disappointed with the place, the place needs a good paint, and they were doing some painting while we stayed there while everyone watched the work me do this, the bathrooms are tiny, the toilet was not bolted to the floor properly and a big crack in it and they left a big hole in the wall behind it where the plumbing went into the wall, you have to get 2 different elevators to get to the top floor, the pool outside wasn't heated and is located right outside the window to the bar on the 6th floor where everyone looks at you,I saw one of the head staff just bang a trolley off the wall with careless ness and walk away from it,the wifi was not free, the carpets went from new to old ... The place needs a whole new renovation ... The only good thing we found was te view we had from our room on the 10th floor and that is all the hotel has going for it

Stayed at the Rydges just last week (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) and loved it. Was there with my partner for our anniversary and it was our first time visiting Queenstown (we are from Auckland). Our flight got in about 10:30am but check in wasnt until 2pm. We went to see if we could drop our bags off so we could go explore the town til check in. The man at the front desk was really nice and offered to check if a room was ready for us which it was so we got to check in a couple of hours early. We were in a room on the 8th floor and the view was absolutely amazing. Room was clean and tidy with plenty of space to hang clothes or put them in draws. Bed was really comfortable despite it being 2 single beds pushed together to make a double. We ordered room service twice which came quickly and was delicious. We used the heated rooftop pool and the spa and both were great. Only set back there is people drinking in the hotel bar's outside courtyard area were practially right next to the spa and it felt awkward having them looking at you. The lady who checked us out was very friendly and we would absolutely come here again.

Had an expired Rydges card, but desk staff looked at my file and gave me a discount on breakfast and dinner and a free drink, but, on checking out, had a problem with getting the discounts, and being told there was "lack of comunication". I persisted though, but was surprised to find the GST, credit card fee, and international exchange fee added. Room was very nice, and bed (well my side) was comfortable, but my husband said his side was saggy in the middle.. Not many power points though! Free wi-fi hot spot on fourth floor, with couches spread around the corridors for this. Young night staff (mostly Irish) were extremely helful and nice, although the blonde lass behind the bar said she doesn't serve red lemonade, when a customer asked for red label scotch. Hotel is 10mins flat walk to central shops and wharves.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor and a room overlooking the Lake.

Second time staying here for 3 nights in last 10 months, initially bad impression on entering, the lady and gent on reception carried on laughing as we stood to check in,not a single smile through check in process,we arrived earlier than expected and told room wouldnt be ready for an hour,we asked if he could see if it was possibly ready,he did and what do you know it was, reception staff very sullen and unfriendly.no wi fi in rooms, not good considering this hotel deals with a lot of people on business, you must buy a drink at the bar to get password for wifi.the room was clean but dated.we used some items from the mini bar and only half of these were replaced.the ranch slider rails leading outside were thick with years of dirt build up,does no one ever look down,it is this attention to detail that makes for point of difference, sadly this hotel badly lacks this important quality,by choice i would book back in,we left a review in an envelope for management and requested acknowledgement upon reciept, outlining our issues,it is rather telling we got no response.
