Staff were outstanding in the level of service provided and could not have been more helpful.
Views across the lake were stunning and we could not fault the rooms in any way - very clean, spacious and well provided.
Just a bit far from the centre if you are walking but the big gripe was the Internet. Only 30 minutes free every 24hrs and that must be taken in one go. After that the charges are outrageously high. These days free wi fi is the norm and we found this quite extraordinary. However, would we sat again. Yes because of the welcoming staff if nothing else!

Having stayed here in 2009, we returned in August 2011 to spend 13 nights here.
Upon check in we were upgraded for free to a Lakeview room 416 which because of the hotels configuration is nearly double the size of the standard Lakeview rooms. The room was very big and spacious and comfortably accommodates a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids).
The Vista Restaurant menu has changed dramatically since 2009 and a big compliment to management for doing this. We had dinner there at least 6 times as this was very convenient especially when using the Advantage Plus Card. The steak and/or the fish and chips were always on the order docket as they proved to be a favourite with everyone. The menu selection is simple, yet very filling and very affordable.
During our stay at the hotel, the hotel staff and service we received were faultless. We always got 4 sets of towels, toiletries, bathrobes, etc . I even had the vacuum cleaner brought to the room so I could suck the air out of the space bags.
The laundry room with coin operated washing machines and driers was also handy as you don’t have to cart your laundry outside and look for a Laundromat.
There is a ski storage room that you enter by swiping your hotel room card. If you have your own gear like us, you can request a padlock with chain from the reception area and lock it up.
There is a new outdoor spa for a maximum of 7 people on a first come first serve bases and guests take it in turns, we never had any problems taking turns in using it. The free sauna and gym facilities are also a bonus is you want to keep fit.
The hotel car parking is free and right outside the reception area, it does fill up quickly if you come after 6pm but you can park on the street. The free parking was especially handy as we were there during the snow storms and we didn’t have to worry about paying or buying any parking tickets.
There is a local bus that stops at the hotel and for NZ$5 return ticket you can get a ride into town centre, you can bring your ski gear (skis/snowboards, etc) on board. Once in town it’s a 5 minute walk to the Snow Centre to catch a bus to The Remarkables/Coronet Peak. I used this service twice and it was great.
Looking back I must say it was another successful holiday and we would definitely be back to stay at the Mercure Resort Hotel.

Just a bit far from town when you have young children. Also, upon check in, the front desk asked if we wanted to pay $25 to upgrade to a lake view room. We said no, and she said she'd upgrade us for free. When we got to the room, there was a welcome card with our name on it, so obviously this was the room we'd been put in. So the front desk tried to charge us for a room already given to us.

Overall just gets closer to a 4 than a 3 rating. More positives than negatives.

This is fairly close to town centre, walkable if you don't mind a hill, or the number 9 bus stops right at the hotel - for the somewhat exorbitant price of $4 just for a couple of kilometers but that's not the hotels fault.

It's over 8 levels in total which was confusing. Even though the reception person had said there are levels going down and we were on '04', it really wasn't made clear (or perhaps the quick talking and the accent meant we missed crucial info) that the level numbering was 1,2,3,4 for entry level and above, while 01,02,03,04 are the floors heading downwards. Nor was it clear how to get to the single and rather hidden elevator that takes people down rather than up. Anyway after going back to reception and getting clarity, we found our room...

Nice big room. Bed very comfy. TV channel selection a bit limited, but perhaps I'm only saying that because they didn't have sky sport 2 which had a game I would have liked to see ;-) No wine glasses despite there being bottles of wine as part of the mini-bar, and as a result we didn't drink any. Bathroom fairly basic, and no sanitary bags which wasn't good news for my partner and she thought the bathroom as a whole was a bit of a letdown.

It certainly had the view of lake and mountains, no worries there! Despite being on the lowest level of the hotel and having a small amount of foliage outside, I recommend getting a lakeview room no matter what floor it turns out to be on. So overall I was happy with the room.

We had dinner in Vista restaurant and were very happy with both entrees and main courses. Great view, although in winter it would be dark too early. The dinner options weren't fancy which suited us well. Too many menus are full of exotic words that don't turn out to be anything special. In my opinion this is a good kiwi style restaurant and the pricing was very reasonable compared to many/most hotels. We had a bottle of local Riesling (Mt Difficulty Target Gully) which was one of the more expensive but we both liked it. One negative, they didn't remember to give the new 15% AdvantagePlusAClub beverage discount.

Breakfast, which happens in a separate restaurant area also with nice views, was not as good. Most of it was fine and was the usual sort of selection, but... the bacon had two states - far too hard and crispy, whereas the non-overcooked bacon was far too fatty. The tomatoes were too dry and hash browns were probably a bit too dry for most people. The Asian section was incomplete - there were the little bowls with pickled garlic etc, but no rice and no miso soup, so it was pointless!

A hiccup on check-out as well. It turned out that the $50 pre-authorisation upon checkin (standard practice as I'm sure most of us have encountered) had actually been charged to my card. Which then muddied the waters as I had an AClub AUD$60 voucher to redeeem and they obviously weren't used to dealing with those. So after a bit of a wait while someone else was called to help, and then went out the back for a while, the $50 error was credited back to my credit card, and the voucher was correctly applied.

Even though there were some hiccups and minor disappointments, I'd go back again, and definitely get a lake view room as I think that's really the point of staying somewhere which isn't in the town centre.
