“Best Accomadation in Queenstown”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

I thought I would write a review to help people that come to Queenstown, decide on accommodation.
We stayed at the Hilton over Christmas for 12 days.
My wife and I visit Queenstown on average of 4 to 5 times a year, and have been for the past few years, as we simply love Queenstown, and consider it pretty much our second home.
We now always only stay at the Hilton.
Take if from someone that has tried many of the Hotel/Motels and 5 star Accom. in Queenstown.
Do yourself a favour and book at the Hilton, it is the best!!!
We have booked again at the Hilton again this year for my wife’s birthday in March.
And again for my 40th Birthday and Ski season in August.
And a special mention for Annika, she is an amazing lady, she always makes us feel special when booking and returning to the Hilton Queenstown.

Room Tip: I would suggest in order of Cost the Lake View Rooms, If you have a little more to spend then the Re...

Stayed for 3 nights over the Australia Day long weeking at a terrific rate. The "basic" king room was fabulous, spacious and very comfortable with TV/sitting area, gas fireplace (not necessary because Queenstown were having a "heat wave"), a huge bathroom with his/her sinks and a large bath tub. The hotel is large and a bit rambling and has clearly been designed for the "convention" market. Bars and restaurants are very good with a nice feel to them. Staff are very young but provided very slick efficient friendly service. The hotel has an award winning spa (which we didn't have time to try) and a nice indoor heated 25m lap pool.

On the "not quite so good", the gym is glaringly substandard (given how right they've done everything else), and access to downtown Queenstown is not totally convenient. Taxis to town are quite expensive ($45 each way) and the bus service is a bit sporadic. The water taxi is great, but keeps "gentlemen's hours" not starting until midday and only running hourly until 10pm. So it isn't an option for going into town for breakfast and it finishes too early to get you back from night out. That aside though, it's a really nice hotel and I'd recommend.

Dear Richard

Thank you for sharing your comments following your stay at Hilton Queenstown.
I was pleased to see that in general you enjoyed yourselves. It is a shame the various forms of transport into the centre of Queenstown were not satisfactory for you, however, I am glad you enjoyed the many outlets we have within the village.

Thank you again and I look forward to welcoming you back to stay again when you are next visiting Queenstown.

This is a gorgeous hotel. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. Beautiful rooms and service. You'd need to get a water taxi to go into the city, but they go every hour, so no major drama. The hotel also charges for internet - that was a little surprising for a 5-star hotel. But overall - very-very nice place!

We booked for my birthday as a treat on our 10 day holiday down in Queenstown.
We booked the new block they have just finished building in the 2 bedroom apartment.

One note! These are not airconditioned, its ridiculous its so hot we couldnt sleep. As we had children we couldnt leave the door open to cool the room. The sun drenches the apartments in the evenings so its hot all night.

We where a bit disappointed with the rooms, there was no toilet roll holder in the main bathroom and the door didnt lock to the deck so we had to watch it with our 2 year old and make sure she didnt climb over the glass wall on the deck and as mentioned they are not air conditioned.

The rooms where clean, the service was average and slow! But the pool is awesome the kids loved this.

We had dinner at the resturant this was lovely.

The SPA is amazing! This is the best thing the hotel has going for it I spent 4 hours here on my birthday and they looked after me wonderful top notch service.

Room Tip: The apartments are not air conditioned

Dear Myounger

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay at Hilton Queenstown.

The Lakeside Residences were completed two years ago and we have recently added them to our management pool. Yes you are correct there is no air conditioning in these units. This is noted on our website and guests are advised at the time of making a reservation. Generally in this part of the country air conditioning is not necessary, however, we are currently experiencing an unusually hot spell of weather and fans are available upon request.

It was great to see you enjoyed a spa treatment for your birthday.

Thank you again and I do hope you have the opportunity to visit us again sometime in the near future.

We stayed over the summer school hols in a 2 bed lake view room. When we arrived we looked for the air con control and couldn't find it-we thought we would look again when we got in from our day in Queenstown. They don't have air conditioning and trying to get to sleep was impossible as the sun drenches these rooms from mid day. There is a small card in the room that says they don't have air con. What's he point in that-should have told us when we booked . Never again -in summer that is.

Room Tip: These rooms are drenched in sun all day and are unbearably hot at night. Check with Hilton before yo...

You are correct the residences do not have airconditioning . Guests are advised of this when making a reservation and again when checking in. I do apologise if you were not informed of this.

We stayed at both properties run by Hilton and loved them both. The kitchen facilities in the room and other amenities at the Kawerau were first rate. We particularly enjoyed the theatre which we were able to book, it is such a great idea.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy a night at the Hilton property across the road and it was fantastic. The rooms are beautifully appointed and I am definetly going to buy one of the beds, it was bliss! The bathroom was a delight and the way the rooms are offset from the corridors allows for peaceful rest, just loved it! The staff were extremely helpful, the pool and spa area were beautiful and the restaurant had a fantastic outlook over the lake. We will absolutely be back and we recommend it to everyone.

The Hilton Queenstown is a new hotel located on the beautiful lake and near the airport. Don't let the airport location discourage you from staying here though, just use it as a point of reference. The rooms are new, clean and really nice. We had an upgraded room overlooking the lake with a fireplace. It was just perfect. There is a small grocery store and several places to eat on the property. They are pet friendly and cater to all the activities Queenstown has to offer. The concierge assisted us in planning a Milford Sound adventure, all we did was show up. They were fantastic!
One thing we were unaware of when we booked here was its exact location. The hotel is pretty far from the town center. If you want to be a part of the action in town or take part in a pub crawl, be prepared to pay for the cab fare. They do provide a water taxi (I think it was $5 per person) it does run on a schedule and the last pick up was 10 or 10:30pm. The hotel itself is awesome. We highly recommend staying here and plan to go back for a winter visit soon.
