“Hilton Queenstown”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

My partner and I spent 7 nights here and absolutely loved it. The hotel is situated right on the lake. It is about a 15 minute drive from the town centre. Great for couples. If you are young and like to go out on the town it is a bit of a drive. However, a water taxi service runs until 10pm for $5. Valet parking was well worth the money spent ($15-$30 for a week). Ski gear was delivered every morning and packed away at night. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The grill restaurant is slightly over priced and very upmarket. However, the cocktails were incredible. The bar staff made them to suite your individual taste. The internet for your rooms was well over priced at $100+ a week. However you have free internet access downstairs in the business centre. The reception offers daily mountain reports. Coronets Peak is only a 20 minute drive. The hotel has a lovely outdoor fireplace located right by the lake. Very romantic. The spa while pricey is well worth the money spent. The corner store located opposite the pub makes great hot chocolates and crossants. Stacks Pub offers affordable food, friendly staff, a variety of NZ & international beer as well as amazing ribs! Cleaning service was done daily. We came home to a bottle of water and chocolate by the bed. A nice touch! All in all, a great hotel. We will be back!

Room Tip: Dont expect a king size bed as they are just two king singles pushed together. I would request a la...

We are a couple and staying at Hilton at the moment for 4 nights. First impression the hotel always live up to its expectation. Grand and classy.

Service at check in was quite prompt and no drama. We had to wait for 5 mins for the room but this is ok given that we checked in at 2pm. We were given room on the ground floor and to our surprise with view of the lake. We didnt expect this as we only booked standard king room. The room itself is beautiful, as many have said, quite spacious and very2 cosy, with heating by fireplace and cooling by air con available. The bed is king size and comfortable. The bathroom consist of bath and shower separately, with rain head in the shower. The tile in the bathroom is also heated which is handy in winter.

This hotel is quite a distance from the city centre. But through reading trip advisor beforehand, we knew this and because we would have a car, posed no problem for us at all. However, there are some eateries and little groceries shop in the hotel. Furthermore, there is a bus service that passed right in front of the hotel and water taxi available to go to city. So yes the hotel is isolated, but there are other means of transportation to take you to the city.

The only negative I could think of, which is quite a ig deal for us, is the internet. Hence the 4 stars rather than 5. The internet is very pricey! 1 hour is $14.50, 24 hrs is $29.00 and 7 days is $120.00. Furthermore, on our previous stay with other hotels, with 24 hours internet, we can usually spread the use of it as long as we logged off, but unfortunately HIlton does not offer such thing. The 24 hours internet is based on 24 hours time limit, regardless of being used or not. In this day and age, and in comparison to most hotels in Asia, this is quite a disappointment. For us, internet is great tool to catch up with friends and families, its not a necessities but always nice to have especially in a 5 stars hotel like HIlton. Hope Hilton can offer the internet as part of their rate in the future.

We are quite happy staying at Hilton and will happily stay here again in the future. Its a shame about the internet for us, but for those people that dont care, it will be a great stay....

My daughter Anna celebrated her 11th birthday on Christmas Eve at Stacks Pub,it was excellent, more than we dreamed of. It began with a water taxi ride,we were greeted with a reserved table and a lovely note, all through the evening we were given the VIP treatment.
I have visited this bar many times after golf and have found the service and food excellent.I believe the food is some of the best if not the best in Queenstown, taste and value. The chef can cook!! Thats why I chose to have our dinner there, and we weren't disappointed.
We had Kids Pizza, beautiful,Kids fish'n chips and the perfectly balanced caesar salad. A 10 minute rest and then came the cake, Wow......2 layers of intense chocolate mousse, a layer of raspberry coulis on fine cake, covered with melted chocolate surrounded by fresh raspberries,a sheet of white chocolate sitting up with happy birthday written in dark chocolate oh man!! bought out with lit sparklers, and happy birthday sung by staff.A girl can't ask for more than that.
Thankyou everybody,we can't wait to come back for Pizza.

As we drove through Queenstown, we had to pass the town before we reached the hotel as it is a 15 minute drive from the downtown area. Our room was really spacious, and since it was a corner room, we had breathtaking views on two sides, one was that of the harbor, and the boats, and the other view was that of the hotel grounds. And the gas log fire was a welcome feature, too!

Also, the hearty breakfast buffet was one of the best I have ever had, with a huge array of hard, thick, and crunchy breakfast breads, cheese platters, and a bowl full of chunky peeled and deseeded fruits to make your own fresh juice right there and then. How much fresher could it get? Of course, the rest of the usual dishes were there, too, the eggs, yogurts, sausages, and the like. And I loved the Chinese potstickers with a dipping sauce, generally an item not frequently seen in the breakfast menu.

But the one thing that you absolutely must ensure if you want to stay at the Hilton is, to have your own car, which we had! Or else, it is not very convenient to hire a water taxi every time you want to go to the city. Turns out to be very time consuming, and expensive, too. Also, I felt that since it was a high-priced hotel, the WiFi should have been complimentary!

Dear Nomita

I appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay at Hilton Queenstown.

I was pleased to see you enjoyed yourselves and found the breakfast selection great.
We do have a local bus and water taxi service operating hourly throughout the day and evening to and from the centre of Queenstown. The bus is only $8 return so very economical and saves trying to find a park in our busy small town.

We do have complimentary internet available in the business centre.

Thank you again and I look forward to welcoming you back to stay when you are next visiting Queenstown.

We stayed here for one night when passing through Queenstown. First thing you realize is how far from everything the hotel is. Its on the kelvin peninsula in its own little estate miles from Queenstown itself, and you really need a car to stay there, unless you want a cab or to catch the infrequent water taxi over to the town proper. Also the part of the lake the hotel overlooks is boring and not particularly scenic. The best views of the lake and the mountains are on the Queenstown side of the lake. The only highlight of the location was the waterfront path which was nice to go jogging on. The gym and pool facilities were nice. I'm not sure any New Zealanders work at the hotel??! The room was clean and spacious which is expected. At the end of the day, for a luxury hotel, I would describe the experience as 'fine'. No major complaints but the experience was ultimately nothing special.

Dear Sian

Thank you for taking the time to place your feedback on Trip Advisor.

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay although it was rather unusual to see you found it boring as the scenery is a huge drawcard for Queenstown.

A water taxi and local bus service operate throughout the day and evening. It is a quick 8 minute ride across the lake to the centre of Queenstown.

I do hope you have the opportunity to visit us again when you are next in Queenstown.

on our South Island trip we stayed at a few motels. When we arrived at the Hilton Queenstown we were so enthralled that we didn't see that much of Queenstown. It was a very nice room to be in. Luxury.
Location: 10 min or so drive from the downtown area. there's a shuttle boat that takes you to the downtown a few times a day. free parking
Room quality: great.
bathroom. very clean. very big. about half the size of some of our rooms
sleep: very good sleep here
internet....this wasn't free in the room. had 3 or so computers in the business room to use.
fitness/pool. nice pool. 2 lanes for laps. enjoyed it

would definitely stay here again. if i had a say where we go to our meetings/conferences i would pick this hotel. it is the nicest Hilton I've been at ever

The staff is competent, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. The location has a view and privacy. The rooms are ample, clean and comfortable. Amenities are as stated, with no surprises. Make sure you have a car though. I'd hate to depend on the shuttle across the lake to get to town.
