We stayed in a 2 person twin room with an ensuite bathroom. For a budget accommodation, this place was perfect. We had a tv, a fridge, a flat screen tv, and a remote controlled air/heating system. The room and bathroom were spotless, with people dropping by daily to vacuum and clean.

The location was also perfect, with the lake, shops, restaurants, cafes, and an excellent chocolatier literally right at our doorstep. The only bad thing is that parking is a bit of a pain, with all the time limits around, but free unlimited street parking can be found if you don't mind a bit of walking. Oh, and on Saturday night there was a lot of street noise outside our window, but this wasn't a problem on Sunday and Monday nights.

One of the nicest places we stayed in in NZ. Highly recommend!

We stayed in a double room (room370) for 2 nights( room very clean, microwave, fridge, TV), very comfortable. Then we wanted to extend another nite but the room was booked on the 3rd nite. So we were offered to stay in a room for 2 couples for NZ90 with attached bathroom. The room is clean and has a fridge and TV but no microwave. We enjoyed the double room though. The owners were friend;y indeed.

Room Tip: More quiet on the 3rd floor

This backpacker hotel has one of the best views in Queenstown, looking down right over the lake and the steamship pier, with stunning mountain ranges in the background. We stayed in a double room right at the top (room 380?), for which the price was reasonable, especially for Queenstown. The facilities were good, the staff wonderfully warm and helpful, and the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. We did not feel out of place despite being somewhat older than many residents. The hotel is centrally located, so food, shopping and nightlife are all just around the corner. Sean and Nadine were very helpful in booking trips and offering local information.

Room Tip: Top floor double room has the best views

The bathroom didn't look (or smell) like it had been cleaned for a week or more, the towels were clean but the toilet stank and the shower had mould and scum marks all up the wall.

The rooms are very dusty and have only a tiny window that opens, so that makes them very stuffy when there are a few people in there. There was also very little floor space, so if you haven't got a bottom bunk to stash stuff under be prepared to not unpack anything from your backpack.

The kitchen looked like a bomb hit it, and also made the whole hostel smell of food as it is at the bottom of the building and has no windows (god forbid someone cooks curry).

The bedding was clean and the hostel is in a good location. The sitting room is small, but has a good size tv and a nice view.

I left after one night despite having paid for 2. Stay at Nomads and if you aren't a party type then ask for a room on the Church Street side and on the 2nd or 3rd floor - I guarantee it will be better than this.

We had one night in 2nd flr room on dbl bedstead that also had a bed above; reading light turn on/off from in bed; dble lounge but no table/chairs. We copped the setting sun and noise from smokers in street below and later night revellers...but not an unacceptable level and remembered we once did the same. Last two nights spent in queen room on lake side of building. Of course had to pay a bit more for the million dollar view. Room clean, new paint, modern louvres, fridge, m'wave, ensuite, small table and two chairs, decent TV. Great value. Sure, a little noise from mall later at night but no big deal, just youth enjoying themselves. Felt a little awkward being older 'backpackers' but entry/lift situation was such that we did not have to intrude into youth space. This venue was booked for us through the 'i' site at G'mouth railway in accordance with our budget request. This place is absolutely central and abutts the lake. A great way to end our holiday.

Great central location and modern facilities await you at Absoloot Value. My room was on the 3rd floor and while the view was fabulous, it was a little noisy (I could hear the music from nearby pub). The room was small but it didn't bother me. Three people would find it tiny.

Absoloot is relatively new, its been open about 7 months so everything is pretty damn clean! We stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was for Queenstown average pricing, maybe a little bit more than your average Base or Nomads but so worth it. It was £32 for a couple rate each a nice in a 4 bed dorm.

The rooms are amazing, the view you get is incredible overlooking the lake and the mountains. The beds are comfy and the pillows and duvet are pretty good too. I think all of the bathrooms are ensuite and they are tastefully done, clean and the shower is awesome. They clean the rooms and toilet every day and look after the hostel pretty well.

We ended up staying for 8 nights just because it felt homely and was just such a great location. The 6 bed dorms are the same size as the 4 bed rooms so they are a bit more packed but the 4 bed was pretty spacious.

The kitchen is well equipped but quite small for the amount of people staying there, it could do with being a bit bigger. Unfortunately they close the common area and kitchen from 10pm (due to rooms near the common area) so there's nowhere really to socialise unless you sit in the small area downstairs.

They offer the generic iac wifi (pay per mb) but you can reach the free internet from the awesome icecream cafe below in the common room. They also have Sky on a nice big flat screen to chill out and watch as well as a pool table and pretty comfy bean bags/

They arranged a BBQ for Australia day (which it rained on) but it was a fun cheap social event and they have poker every friday. They try and involve everyone in the hostel which is nice and it's also a great location right next to the lake.

The place is well kept and owned by an Australian family who are all really nice, the son and daughter work there as well as the dad (he does the handy work around the place!) and I hope they keep up the standard, I would definitely go back.
