“Scenic views”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

My wife and I went on this tour and enjoyed the views. We were the only passengers in the 4WD with Arthur as our tour guide. We got to see one particular river bank which was used as one of the scenes in the movie "The Lord of the Rings" - where Arwen (Liv Tyler) rides a horse across the river to get away from the Dark Riders. See the photos attached to have an insight about this place.

Greetings from Queenstown and thank you for your feedback. It's actually one of the best kept secrets that Skippers Canyon featured in the first of the Lord of the Rings movies. And the spot you mentioned still just looks like the movie set... just without the movie-stars :-)
Thanks for taking your time to share your experience.

“A+ !!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

This is much more enjoyable than any jet boat tour which seems to be the most popular in Queenstown. I can't say enough wonderful things about Wolfgang and the trip. He takes you to the most amazing vistas. The roads are quite impressive and quite jaw dropping. The eye candy on this 3 hour tour is unforgettable. A+ photo ops!

“Very scenic and educational tour”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We also had Arthur as our guide, and I have to agree with Bungo's review that the tour was excellent (actually I think we may have been on the same tour). Arthur was quite knowledgeable and fun, and he even shared many interesting stories about the Chinese gold miners in the area since my mom and I are from there.

Skippers Canyon itself was breath-takingly stunning. Sadly a lot of the trees were killed to make room for native species so we didn't see as much autumn color as we expected. And the river was a muddy brown instead of the usual sapphire blue due to heavy rainfall the night before. Despite those conditions though, the place was still gorgeous. It is also very unique both in landscape as well as its role in gold mining and shaping the area's early history.

The tour was rewarding both in terms of scenery and education. I also felt Arthur tried to accommodate everyone's interests without us asking for it, and this I greatly appreciate. As my mom doesn't speak English, I have to translate for her on all the tours we took. I often worried she'd be bored on some of the tours, but on this one Arthur used many stories about Chinese miners to keep her interested without losing the big picture and balance on the general information and history of the place.

Other tours seemed to have smaller, tougher vehicles that go off-road. But as my mom was scared of heights, this one seemed safe and more suitable. And although we stayed mostly on the road, I don't think we were cheated any part of the adventure or scenery.

I would definitely recommend the Skippers Canyon and Heritage tours to anyone who visits Queenstown area.

“Knowledgeable and inofrmative guide”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

We were so happy that our Otago NZ trip started off with the visit to Skippers Canyon about which we had known nothing till we read an article in the Jetsatr magazine a few minutes before our flight landed. Our guide Arthur who is so well-read about the area and passionate about sharing his knowledge with us, made such a great difference to our understanding.
Autumnal colours in NZ are quite different from what we see in Japan as firstly they are imported
from the Northern Hemisphere and its spreading is closely associated with the Gold mining history. We are thankfull to Arthur for his most inofrmative commentary and for his kindness in leaving the camera cap with the hotel reception. (We forgot a camera cap in the car.) This is the kind of thing made such an impact to the memory of our trip. Most recommended tour.

“Amazing”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

The whole trip was absolutely AMAZING, echoing other review it was truly an unforgettable experience to our family. We book the tour based on reviews and honestly, I am so glad that we did. Skippers Canyon is a “MUST do” activity if you are visiting Queenstown. Wolfy; our friendly tour guide picked us up at our hotel, he is knowledgeable of the history of skippers canyon and delivered it really well throughout the trip. The van was equipped with speakers which was a big plus point! My parents who sat at the back could hear him loud and clear. The highlight of our trip was that we had so many stops for scenic photography session; thanks to our tour guide Wolfy! We took so many scenic photos of the canyon which were breathtakingly beautiful and colourful! We walked on the mountain road, crossed the Shotover bridge, enjoyed the scenic view and breathe in the clean fresh air and the best part was no one rushed us! It was excellent and fantastic trip indeed. We had a wonderful family time together enjoying the beauty all to ourselves. We would like to say thank you to Wolfy and his team for making our trip to Skippers Canyon a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience for the whole family.
