“Best Family Holiday House”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We were fortunate to stay at The Canyons Lodge exclusively for 10 days at the the end of the Ski season Sept 28-7 Oct. We wanted a special place to celebrate mum's 60th birthday, which included my brother and his girlfriend, mum, me, my husband & our 2 teenage sons (13 & 15). We had been planning this for a while and had been looking at the website and the pictures for along time trying to imagine what our first visit to Queenstown would be like. I can only tell you that we were blown away when we pulled into the driveway of this breathtaking residence. The pictures on the website cannot do justice to this amazing property, you have to see it to believe it! Only a short drive from town, and yet you feel like you are a world away perched up high on a canyon with 360 degree views of pure unspoilt beauty. We could not believe we had this whole house to ourselves. The house is nice and clean, warm, and cosy and large enough that sometimes it takes a while to find each other after a long day. The rooms were spaced from one end of the house to the other giving each of us the privacy we needed. The hot tub in the garden was a welcome relief for the boys at the end of a big day snowboarding on Cardrona's slopes. The kitchen is huge and we loved the fact we could stock the house with our own food and cook meals before relaxing by the open fire each evening. The local supermarket is 5 mins away, and we were very fortunate to be offered the house Landrover (7 seater) for the week which allowed us the ease of popping in out of town at our leisure. The new owners Brent & Sarah are wonderful people who live close by, and are willing to offer help and suggestions at any time you need. Sarah is the most accommodating, genuine lady you will come across, she helped me plan our mothers surprise helicopter ride for her b'day and got us the best discount ever, and ensured everything was planned to finest detail, I would recommend booking things like this through Sarah as when I tried doing it from Australia it was so much more expensive (she's in the know). There was nothing that Sarah will not help you with, she just has that amazing nature, you feel like she's your friend and this is not something you generally get with holiday house owners or booking agents. We would definately stay at Canyons Lodge again, our teenagers are already asking us to book again for next year. I would definately go at that same time of year as we missed the ski season rush and it wasn't absolutely freezing, just very pleasant. Thank you Sarah & Brent for a memorable Queenstown holiday. We stayed at the lodge for 10 days and had a great stay. Plenty of space for the 7 of us. The location of the house is brilliant, View amazing, close enough to town but far enough away for the rural escape we wanted. Kitchen is one of the best we've experienced and well kitted out. Everything we needed. Sarah the host was awesome. Helped us with all we could ask for and met us at the airport to help with luggage. All in all I couldn't have asked for anything more. Definitely a return visit on the cards. Couldn't see us staying anywhere else in the area. Big thanks to Sarah for all the help. You made such a difference to our trip.

We hired this house out for our group holiday in New Zealand we stayed for 12 days and this house was amazing it was tidy, clean and well represented. We were very well looked after by Sarah, she went out of her way to help us and answer any questions we had. The house accomadated 7 people comfortably and we were all equally pleased with our stay.
The outdoor hot tub complemented a long day on the slopes well.

There are very few places in the world, that can compete with the stunning location/views and luxury of this lodge. From the moment we arrived and were so welcomed by Sarah (the manager) we felt right at home. (we wish this place was our home!) The house itself is beautifully presented, masculine in style, but has all the luxuries a lady could want too. Soaking in the claw foot bath while looking out at the misty hills was just spectacular, and what better way to spend time with your family than by sitting by the fire together after an amazing days skiing, sipping wine and relaying the adventures of the day. Sarah was so helpful and lovely, it felt like we had known her for so much longer than having just met her. We will definitely be back!

The Canyons Lodge will take your breath away; the incredible view, the log fires, the Jacuzzi, the friendly service, the master bedroom and did I mention the view... the list goes on!!
We held our Wedding on the lawn in May and the Autumn colours were spectacular. It is just so peaceful, serene and relaxing. We will definitely be heading back there again soon to take it all in again.
Coralee, the lodge manager, could not do enough for us, she even went into town to pick up our dinner so we didn't have to leave the lodge!
Only 5 mins drive from Queenstown it is the perfect place to stay to relax, unwind and be at one with the best view nature has to offer!

Room Tip: The Master bedroom is huge, luxurious and offers uninterrupted views - you would never want to get o...

Although there are so many hotels in Queenstown itself to choose from, we chose Canyons Lodge (which is just a five minute drive out of town) because of the views and because of the peaceful, private location. The photos speak for themselves really. After staying here (and visiting neighbouring Arrowtown, which is so pretty) we found we much preferred the canyonlands, Arrowtown and surrounding area to Queenstown itself, which was a suprise.

With only three guest rooms, it never feels crowded. The only meal provided onsite is breakfast (which is quite a family affair, with all of the guests sitting together and getting to know each other) yet this isn't a problem, since the lodge is so close to Queenstown and all of its amenities. Also there is a large kitchen that you are allowed to use, should you wish. Other facillities include a well equiped laundry room and an outdoor hot tub with stunning views. Again, the photos speak for themselves.

The owners, Andy and Mel (who now live offsite in Arrowtown, but are around each day), and also their onsite manager Coralee were all lovely and the lodge had quite a relaxed, informal feel about it. We were offered lifts into town, and also offered the use of their 4 wheel drive vehicle at one point, which we were very surprised by (never had that at any hotel before!!). We liked the wine and cheese on the terrace on an evening, this was a nice touch and a good way to get to know the hosts and other guests.

It's really hard to pigeon-hole this accommodation, since it is so unique - is it a lodge, a b&b, a self catering property or are you a guest in someone's home? Well, it's a bit of all of those things really. I think that ultimately this property offers a friendly, laid-back experience, with good company and stunning views, which I think is what a holiday in New Zealand is all about.

We stayed at the Canyons Lodge at the start of our month long trip. Andy is very knowledgeable about area attractions and willingly booked these for us. The breakfasts were delicious. While we were there one of the other guests was vegan. The onsite manager researched recipes to be able to accomodate this guests needs. It is a peacful spot to come to after a day of adventure. The view was awesome from the guest rooms and the dining room. We were fortunate that the weather was warm while there and we enjoyed the patio and views.
