We drove to Canyons Lodge from Te Anau; the journey took around 2 1/2 easy hours and we arrived to a warm welcome and a bottle of local sparkling wine waiting in the fridge. We found the Canyons Lodge very easily, but beware the sharp left turning into the drive if approaching from Arthurs Point.
Andy and his assistant Meg made us feel instantly at home and showed us all the guest accommodation. We had chosen one of the downstairs bedrooms with immediate access onto the large decked area, but we were very impressed by the spectacular suite upstairs; this would be perfect for a special treat or for a family. However, we were more than happy with our choice; the room was large, the furnishings luxurious and the setting superb. The sun was shining so we took our excellent bottle of wine out on to the decking and spent a very pleasant hour relaxing on the comfy seats overlooking the Shotover River and the Coronet Peak.
We had three delightful days at Canyons Lodge and enjoyed chatting with Andy, Mel and Meg. There was plenty of choice of good places to eat out without going down to the busy Queenstown. And on our first night Andy arranged with Gantley’s for a free taxi pick-up and return; a great service, and excellent food. We also ate out at the The Stables in picturesque Arrowtown (good) and at the Millbrook restaurant, Millhouse, (this was one of the best meals of our whole holiday!).
Breakfast at Canyons Lodge was served in the dining room, Meg cooked for us twice and Andy once, both were great and we loved Andy’s eggs Benedict!
We were very pleased that we had chosen to stay at Canyons Lodge rather than right in Queenstown. We loved the peace of the location and the superb quality of the accommodation; it was one of the best of 17 different New Zealand stays. We are still trying to decide which is number one, there are 4 jostling for this position!

Queenstown at its most impressive! We stayed here for 3 nights and hired the entire lodge for our wedding party. We held the ceremony on the lawn overlooking the Shotover River. Our stay was more than we could ever have hoped for. The master bedroom is amazing - spacious, warm, quiet with a stunning balcony and an enormous bathroom - my favourite feature being the bathtub that overlooks the Canyon. The bedrooms downstairs were large and comfortable, each with their own bathroom and lovely outdoor areas. The lounge was spacious yet felt cosy in the evenings. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather and made the most of the outdoor areas with the the BBQ, the decking and the outdoor spa pool. A magnificent place to stay, isolated yet close to Queenstown, private, comfortable, luxurious - highly recommended!

The Canyon's Lodge is truely one of the most beautiful places on earth. I attended a wedding at the Lodge which was absolutely superb. The setting, the location, the bedrooms and especially the hosts made this a holiday of a lifetime. Andy & Mel are wonderful hosts, along with their adorable dog Trigger, and will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is perfect from beginning to end.

The view from the lodge is stunning and if there wasn't so much to do in Queenstown, I would have happily sat on the terrace all day. The Lodge is surrounded by natural beauty and picture postcard views. Plus all day long you can watch the Shotover jet whizzing along the turquoise water in thecanyon.

Each bedroom is delightful complete with all mod cons yet emitting a natural charm from the glorious bed to the antique wooden floor and in some ensuites, beautiful claw foot baths looking directly over the canyon.

If you are lucky enough to visit New Zealand, do not miss out on at least a couple of nights at The Canyon's Lodge and be sure to say Hello to Andy & Mel.

The hosts, Andy and Mel, and are not only helpful, but two people you really enjoy hanging out with. My 4-year-old daughter fell in love with their dog, Trigger, and named the lodge "Trigger's House." We had the big upstairs room with the amazing view you see in their website. The tub in the bathroom has the same incredible view. You wake up to the sounds of the Shotover River below, and sheep grazing nearby. Be sure to ask Andy to make you his special Eggs Benedict...best you ever had! You can't beat the location, either...just 4km north of Queenstown makes it easy to get back after a night in town...but far enough away that you get none of the noises of the city. The view from the lodge is totally unspoiled...a real pleasure any time of day or night. Andy and Mel have been in the area for years, so they can recommend the right companies if you're interested in anything, from rafting to a helicopter ride to Milford Sound. The Canyons Lodge is great...we've been home for only 2 days and we already miss it! By all means, tell Andy and Mel we sent you!

This place is amazing. Its so peaceful and you immediately feel so welcome by the hosts and never want to leave. We stayed one night - then another - then another. Andy and Mel are so accommodating and flexible. Will work around all your requirements. They are resourceful and well connected in Queenstown. Whatever you require these guys will make it happen. In the evening you sit down to drinks and nibbles looking over an amazing view of the Shotover River. Go into town or enjoy one of the hidden gem restaurants in the area and you won't be disappointed. All the rooms are great. Don't get confused by which view is better - the whole experience and location is breathtaking. We want to go back immediately. You will think of Canyons Lodge as you home in New Zealand and never want to stay anywhere else again. Miss you guys already :)

This was the first stop on our 2.5 week honeymoon in New Zealand and Australia. We had such a fabulous time at the Canyons Lodge. Words can not express how hospitable Andy and Mel are. We left the resort with the feeling that we stayed at a friend's home. Andy offers a great value in providing a car to drive (we didn't take him up on this but knew it was available) He drove us into town many nights and picked us up. We explored Arrowtown with their adorable dog Trigger and enjoyed wine on the patio in this peaceful beautiful lodge for five nights! We were so happy we decided not to stay in town and stay at the lodge which was still only 4KM away.

Spent two nights here at the very end of our New Zealand tour. What a great way to end it! Beautiful house, outstanding view, quiet and romantic yet close enough to Queenstown to be a base for trips in the area. The hosts Andy and Mel were friendly but respectful of our privacy. Wonderful people to enjoy a glass of wine with on the patio between sightseeing and going to dinner. Andy cooks up a great hot breakfast in the morning where you can eat your fill and be ready for a day of travel, or just sitting on the porch looking over the canyon. Try the outdoor hot tub under the stars at night, what bliss! Andy and Mel can give you ideas for local restaurants and sightseeing. Absolutely recommend the Canyons Lodge!
