OK so here is he bottom line. The food on the extensive buffet was very good. Much better than the Skyline buffet. The grilled beef, lamb ribs and pork were excellent. Many good salads, cheeses and side dishes. The boat ride is fun and interesting given the scenery and the unique steam driven 100+ year old ship. It is fun to explore around including a close up of the engine room. Note that if you take the dinner package in the fall or winter you will not see much scenery since sunset is earlier. The sheep herding and sheep sheering demonstrations are OK. If you haven't seen it elsewhere it is interesting but not a great show. All around an entertaining and relaxing evening. Everything is kid friendly but you might be better off taking the kids on a package earlier in the day - perhaps a lunch package.

The Earnslaw across the lake was a wonderful piece of nostalgia and the evening meal at Walter Peak was very tasty and a great way to spend the evening.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and found the salads, the meat and the desserts all top quality. We were one of the last tables to be allowed up, which was a bit annoying as we paid the same as everyone else and were starving, but once up we found some salad dishes had run out, but they were soon replaced. There was also plenty of meat available and choice from the bbq. When you add in the cruise over the lake to get there and back, it works out to quite a reasonable price for an outstanding meal.

We also were met by the photographer and were asked to stand on the gang plank for a photo, we politely said we didn't want our photo taken and walked on board, yes she seemed very disappointed, but in the end it was no hassle, as we just ignored her. So don'[t feel pressured that you have to stand there and have your photo taken, you don't it's not a requirement of the cruise.

The farm show was great, not to long and very entertaining, those sheep are well trained. As another reviewer said the prices in the gift shop are not too bad either.

If you are after a top quality meal, look no further than the Walter Peak Evening dining excursion. Next time we go for a holiday to Queenstown, we will definitely try the lunch excursion.

The cruise across to the station on the Earnslaw was very picturesque on our beautifully fine evening. The restaurant set up is superb - awesome decor. The variety on the menu was extensive and well presented but they are trying to cater for too many diners at the same time. By the time our table was given the nod to go for our food, the lines were extensive, dishes had run out and once back at our table we only had 20 mins to eat our meal before we were evacuated from the dining toom to go to the farm show. Once again, numbers at the show prevented a full viewing of the dogs mustering the sheep etc

I have travelled on the Earnslaw many times and it is always a pleasure but this time the meal exceeded all of my high expectations. I was told there had been an upgrade and so was eager to see the result and I was blown away by the quality and quantity of delicious BBQ meats, seafoods, salads and do not forget the deserts - and I mean, leave room - they are worth every bite. Service was timely and friendly. All I can say is Skyline Gondola (also a must visit for the views) need to pull their socks up food wise as Walter Peak have produced a winning formula.
