Did Routeburn day hike with Errol. What a great day. The day started with steady rain when we hit the trailhead. Er, track head? Errol was in good spirits and ensured we were prepared. The weather gods favored us, and conditions soon cleared. The rains brought beautiful falls from the cliff walls, and the bird life abounded. Errol's keen skills spotted numerous birds by call and sight, including two rare endangered species: a whio (blue duck) and three groups of Mohua. His knowledge of local flora, fauna, geography and history is impressive. A very pleasant chap and walking companion!
