“excellent stay in a very nice location”
Reviewed May 2, 2009

this was am amazing stay in excellent rooms and a very nice host. Shirley and Barry offer a great hospitality and excellent service; so you feel at home from first second. The rooms offer a spectacular view over the Lake abd the mountains and this landscape-picture changed from morning to dawn.
The lodge is located in a quiet environment and is a good place to relax after typical Queenstown thrilling activities.
We plan to come back and stay longer.

Shirley, our hostess, made my wife and I most welcome when we arrived, having driven from Franz Josef Glacier. The Hikurangi Lodge was high up on the east end of Queenstown, but the views from all its windows were stunning. The bedrooms were very comfortable although not en-suite but the facilities were adjacent, shared by two bedrooms. We could use Shirley's lounge in the evenings when she also enjoyed a chat and gave us guidance on what to do and see.

Shirley's breakfasts were excellent. A variety of options were available and since her husband worked in a fruit farm, her breakfasts incorporated a wide selection of fruit, both cooked and fresh.

In my view, it was the best Bed & Breakfast (or Homestay) which we had during our 6 weeks in New Zealand and that's saying something since they were all up to a very high standard and we didn't have a bad one.

This was the best B&B we stayed in during out time in NZ - absolutely stunning. Shirley made us so welcome and even picked us up from the airport. We loved our conversations with Shirley as we admired the view - there was even a telescope which enabled us to get a closer look from the comfort of the lounge.
The B&B is at the top of Queenstown hill which means you get fabulous views of Lake Wakatipu - it also means it's a long walk home at the end of a busy day - but it's worth it.
The breakfasts are to die for and there is so much to choose from - I can recommend the smoothies, crumpets with maple syrup, full english and pretty much everything else on the menu.
Our bedroom and bathroom had the same stunning views of the lake as the lounge and both were spacious and spotless.
We were gutted to leave after only 2 nights and would dearly love to go back. I would encourage anyone staying in Queenstown to stay with Shirley.
