First visit to the Winery in Arrowtown.

It certainly wont be the last.

8 of us had lunch.
We knew we would be noisey catching up so asked to sit in the small snug where the whiskeys are tasted. We had two great platters of food and chose not to wine taste as we knew the wine we wanted, so just ordered it by the bottle. Im not sure, (because someone else paid) but I think there might be a corkage fee if you drink by the bottle.

As locals we have some good places to drink in Arrowtown but I think this will be my new favourite place.

The atmosphere was great, the staff very friendly and the food was good. What more can you ask for?

We visited Arrowtown not long after lockdown restrictions were eased & met with a couple of friends at The Winery’s new Arrowtown premise one crisp autumn evening.

The Winery was an excellent choice; it was warm and cosy and we were surrounded in dozens of wines that we could try. The drinks options were complimented by the utterly divine Parmesan & truffle chips (these are worth going for on their own) chorizo and the meatballs were a hit with the kids.

A couple of the wines I liked so much I took some home, and there was definitely several more I would have loved to take with me.

We will definitely be heading back there over the winter months after skiing. There are comfy leather chairs beside the warm fire that have my name on them!

Don’t be put off by the name if you aren’t that into wine - I see they now do coffee, whisky, gin and of course there’s great tapas (did I mention the parmesan chips?).

Highly recommended for an activity, or wine research, socializing or eating.

I visited in January, purchased $1,335 of wine for them to ship back to the U.S. They shipped during the coldest month of the year in Chicago (which no wine retailer or winery does) and the wines were ruined. I tried contacting them to resolve but haven’t heard from them in 8 weeks. I paid full insurance on the shipment and haven’t received dollar one!

The wine offerings are numerous and the walls lined with bottles usually connected to a spout which you can dispense one of 3 amounts into your glass using a card placed into a slot on the machine. Each bottles has "tasting notes" to help you choose which you want to taste. The costs depend on the price of the bottle so there is a range basically $30-100NZ/bottle so a small taste starts at $3.10. There are wines from all over the world and many NZ so for me I could taste NZ without buying a bottle. The venue is fun besides with a fireplace and TV for a sports match. I had the bread and dip tapas which was delightful with the "dukkah"! At the end you retrieve your drivers license by paying what has been indicated on your wine card. Cheers!
