“Awesome experience, perfect length for kids!!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

We bought the deluxe tickets on the train for my sons birthday and we had so much fun!! We got a little cabin to ourselves with beautiful padded seats. a platter of yummy local foods and a bottle of wine. Before we left we got something to eat the the station in Kingston and that food was fabulous too. The train trip itself was the perfect length for travelling with small children. They loved every moment. When you get to the stop you get off and can watch as they turn the train around and they even let the kids get into the engine for a look where the driver sits. There is a little souvenir shop there although I was disappointed that there weren't many things that were specific to the Kingston Flyer but we picked up a couple of things anyway. Then you get a lovely little return trip, a fabulous little outing when staying in the Queenstown area :)

“Great little trip”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We splurged on a bird cage carriage for the two of us with platter and wine. I don't drink wine but my husband said it was like drinking vinegar. The platter was great - variety + and very yummy!. The trip itself is worth doing if only to keep a slice of history in operation. The scenery was pretty, the carriage was special and the swapping ends of the engine was well worth the watch!

“Travels aboard the Kingston Flyer South Island New Zealand”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Our trip sealed the wait of five years to come back to Queenstown area to visit with my husband and my mum ( making her first visit to New Zealand and the South Island.)
The Kingston Flyer was one of the best trips we took and was a marvelous experience for all three of us. It is a 'must do' on the bucket list of life. The staff - we presume locally employed and perhaps retired train enthusiasts - who make the journey so enjoyable with their expert knowledge and kindly manners. The Kingston Flyer is a majestic beast and we hope will be traveled on for many a year to come!

“Fantastic Trip”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

If you love trains then this is the trip for you. About 30 mins out of Queenstown the train leaves from Kingston funnily enough. 1/2 hour trip, 1/2 hour there and 1/2 hour back. So many people lining the road to take photos. A must do.

“A piece of history”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Amazingly well-maintained despite the age of the train. We see a lot of old couples doing this I guess this is somewhat nostalgic. The first time we went the train wasn't running (perhaps fire hazard?) but they ran the locomotive back and forth a few times for tourists to take pictures which is very nice. Went back again on the way back to Christchurch and finally got to ride on it. Do walk around the different cabins and look at the fixtures. Nothing exceptionally adventurous but it's something different. But do beware that trains sometimes don't run so try not to pre-book tickets and do have alternative plans prepared. Also if you like this steam-engine run train you can check out the 100 year old steam ship the TSS Earnslaw.
