“Memorable Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2008

My husband and I spent two weeks traveling the South Islands and Australia. We have to say that this was the best hotel. The place was immaculate and the view from the balcony was outstanding. The bed was ever so comfortable and the full size kitchen was a joy. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. I was just about to type "facing the lake", but all rooms face the lake. Type "Lake Wakatipu" in Google and the pictures you'll get facing The Remarkables are the view from your room.
It was just perfect, down to the wine glasses.
I'm not going to say much more, because the website is telling the truth. Belive everything they say.
The next stage was in construction, which must be quite taxing to the staff, but they they were just as they should be in a establishment of this caliber.
Only one thing, the TV-sound system system needs some adjustments from their part, but I' sure once the teething problems are ironed out, all will be good. To listed to your iPod, you need an RCA-3.5 mm jack cable, not provided by the hotel, and need to plug it in the control box under the TV table, you need to kneel and do a bit of yoga, plug it in one of the avialble inputs and off you go.

Had two nights here whilst in town for business.

A good quality room with a large well lit desk space that I could use my laptop and had space for all the paperwork I seem to accumulate.

We were in Queenstown for a weeks skiing and had the best time. There had been fresh snow, sunshine, I think we encountered every weather possible which just added to the fun.

Our room at the Rees was magnificent, its was all brand new and top quality. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. We did have a problem where our gas fire wouldn't work one morning, but when we returned it was going and was fine from then on.

Its a little bit out of town, but a taxi in was only $10 which was fine between the four of us for a night out. Saying that I don't think I would stay here if I didn't have a car.

We are looking forward to going back next year.

I was recommended to stay at The Rees by a friend. They told me that I wouldn't be disappointed by the establishment, and I have to agree. Sure, there is contruction work going on, but from my room on the top level of the first phase I found minimal disruption from noise and activity. Basically, I was in Queenstown to ski, not to lie in my bed all day. Staff told us that the majority of the construction work would be complete by Christmas.

The Rees has an extensive wine cellar and a huge, warm recpetion area and lounge. Staff were good and made us feel at home in the recption area. They even made us coffees on the house whenever we came in to say hi. There is a good gym and sauna as well.

The room was great, we had a two bedroom apartment (F516) which was very spacious. The beds and pillows are very comfortable as well. While there is some disruption from building work, once this place is finished will be very unique.

We stayed in a "4 bedroom 4 bath apartment" - this was far more space than we needed as there wee only 4 of us! The "apartment" title is a little misleading as really we were given 3 seperate rooms - all with seperate enterances - and to access each seperate appartment we had to exit via the front doors. Really it was one 2 bed appartment with a kitchen and 2 studios. I would not have been happy with just the 2 bedroom appartment as the 2nd bedroom was small and dark - no external windows. Perhaps ok for 2 adults 2 kids - def not ok for 4 adults. The studios were lovely - big, bright, great views. The Rees is Brand new everything is clean and the finishes are of a top standard. NOTE This hotel is still under construction - the hotel tells us they should be expected to finish May 2009. I was under the impression the construction was at the other end of the complex when I made the booking, but the first morning discovered it was right outside our window. The complex is on 5 levels so no matter where your room is you will be exposed to some degree of construction noise. Because of this we also found ur room to be VERY dusty. The location was good - right on the lake with good views to the surrounding mountains. It is a 5 min drive to the centre of town, and prob a 30 min walk - however it is along a busy road so we chose to drive into town when we went. I would stay here again - it is a beautiful place, but DEFINETLY not during their construction period. We complained to recpetion and were given a bottle of wine and a couple of free in house movies. I would recommend the property next door - the Oaks - it's cheaper, still new and of a similar standard - but without the yellow cranes obstructing the view!!!

All our apartments are twin key setup which gives guests an apartment with a full kitchen and 2 bedrooms - one at the front with views of the Lake and the other at the back with a high external window.

All websites that we are listed on advise that we are still under construction.

These guest were upgraded before they arrived into an Executive apartment which has spectacular uninterrupted views of Lake Wakatipu. Construction can only be viewed from this apartment by standing on the balcony and looking downwards.

Queenstown in the Winter is very dusty because of road grit which is spread every morning if there is snow or ice, we have no control over this.

The walk into town can be accessed by the scenic Frankton walkway, which is a beautiful track that takes about 25mins along the lakefront into town. There is also adequate footpath and cycle paths along the roadside for pedestrians to use.

Please note; All our main construction will be finished by December 2008, any further construction will be well away from the main apartment complex with very little, if any, effect on guests staying in house.

We offered to relocate these guests to another Apartment complex but they declined and said they would stay with us, we did give them a bottle of wine and free in house movies,

Although there was no mention of it on the site when we booked our accommodation, the site has been subsequently amended to say " construction work will occur throughout this period, the areas being completed are located OUTSIDE the present operating areas of The Rees."
Unfortunately, by OUTSIDE, they mean right outside your window, every day except Sunday. If you like cranes, constant drilling and hammering, this is the place for you.
If not, wait until completion in May 2009. It will be a very high density development, but quite well fitted out.
