This stay was almost exactly like the one we had a year before.
We checked in which was quick but they wanted to give us a room on the lower level. I asked if we could have one on a higher level but was told they are completely booked.
So we went to our room and had a déja vu experience. Like the year before we had a room that was not suitable for us with a handicapped shower. These showers have no walls so if you take a shower the whole bathroom gets flooded. We asked if it was possible to change the room due to this and surprise, it was no problem. We had a room two rooms over from the one last year. The bed was much more comfortable than the last time.
The rest of the room was a mirror of our first room a year ago. Great view, nice bathroom and great room service. WiFi was free as well.

We have visited the Queenstown area 8 times over the past 12 years. We have stayed at Millbrook Resort, Azur, and a lovely little B&B that has since changed hands. We thought that we would give the "luxury boutique hotel" Rees a try this time. We typically stay several days, this trip was for 5 days.
The Rees has a very lovely staff, although they are not particularly attentive unless you are directly in front of them. Example; we sat in the hotel bar area for over a half an hour and nobody came to ask if we would like to order, after 45 minutes, we left. This was usually the case when we had questions or we looking for help, we had to wait.
Our room, on the 7th floor, had a stunning view of Lake Wakatipu, and since there was a beautiful snowfall at the beginning of our trip, the mountains were divine to behold. However the room itself was less than luxurious. Modest appointments and a carpet in need of a deep steam cleaning or replacement were disappointing as was the lack of suitable storage for unpacking our suitcases for a 5 day trip.
The walk along the lake into Queenstown proper is quite lovely and very well maintained. We are in good shape (competitive runners) and timed our walks to and from Queenstown, it is 30 minutes at a brisk pace with no stopping to appreciate the wonderful beauty of nature all around.
Overall, the Rees is nice, but not nice enough to be considered luxury and it will not be on our list of hotels to revisit.

Room Tip: A room up top where we were gets views over all of the roof tops, but some road noise.

We stayed at the Rees for my wife’s 40th birthday, in a 2-bedroom apartment owned by a friend. The Rees is a very modern, newly built block right on the lakeside. Its about a 20/25 minute walk into town. The rooms are very modern, very well appointed, but quite overlooked. They don't have a huge amount of character; possibly because they are so new, but they are kept immaculately clean.

The staff at the Rees are exceptional. They are attentive, friendly, and that is from management to maintenance.

I would definitely stay again.

WOW what an experience! It was my first trip down the South Island and it wont be my last! The Rees was absolutely stunning, the views from the balcony were amazing, the room just perfect, the staff so friendly and helpful and the shuttle drivers so warm and chatty! The rain didn't stop us from enjoying our 2 fabulous days their and on our last day it snowed and we hoped our plane was cancelled so we could stay just 1 more night, but alas it wasn't. We have lovely memories of The Rees and highly recommend it to anyone.

A fabulous hotel in a great location with unforgettable views and with attentive, professional service from the very friendly staff. Very comfortable accommodation with everything one could require - a comforting home away from home. Thank you from Joan.
