Lovely stay at the executive lake view room. Last January was our second time staying at this hotel. We rent the three bed room - lake view apartment for our family, and executive lake view for both our November and January trip. LOVE it! Great staffs, nice, clean, comfy. we also have a surprise greeting card and chocolates. :P free Milk everyday. :D Really nice stay. Esp, if you rent it including breakfast. The breakfast was awesome! Yummy too! :P we definitely will stay at this place again if we revisited Queenstown! :D

It looks like a grey barracks, with outside walkways. Our room was very nice, facing the lake witha comfortable bed. However when we were being shown our room my husband opened the window and the staff member said, ah yes, the airconditioning, just dont open the windows at night as all the bugs will come in.What was that all about, supposedly 5 star and no aircon! We absolutely sweltered at night, so werent impressed at all.
The restaurant is very small and the buffet a bench only about 12 feet long so a lot of ducking and diving at breakfast. Worst selection I have come across and not replenished enough. You have to order your eggs separately, so by the time you have managed to get toast, with just 2 domestic toasters, either your toast or eggs are cold.
Plus when we got back exhausted after a long day out our key cards didnt work, so it was a walk down the draughty corridor, up in the lift, across the carpark, up in the lift to reception. It was resolved with a simple there that should work, no apology, nothing, so back down in the lift across the carpark, down in the lift and back along the corridor.
So, five star, I dont think so, will we stay there again ? For that price no, we deserved better.

Room Tip: Make sure your Lake View room is not a limited view.

We stayed in Rees from 12 to 15th February 2013.We stayed in Executive 2 bedroom apartment with our 2 kids. It was brand new apartment with highest quality of furnishing. Kids loved there separate room. its like 5 star apartment and large balcony facing the river is the best part.
Its the best property in Queenstown directly facing the Wakatipu river. Water taxi is available right below the hotel if required. Free parking at the hotel is provided.
The Concierge is best i have ever came across. Mel and Doug were really helpful. They made our day itinerary and got us all the bookings. Trusted there choice and it was lot of fun for us and kids. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Queenstown.

Room Tip: Executive Apartment with River view. The apartments in the front of the hotel.

This was our last accommodation on a two week honeymoon to New Zealand, which was booked by a travel agency. We preferred many of the other small, "lodge" type accommodations on our trip to the large, less personal Rees Hotel. There Rees was nice and clean, and the service was good; however, nothing made it stand out from other hotels we've stayed at. In addition, the room and dining was just average. The location was great, as it was close to downtown Queenstown; plus, they offered a free shuttle to the downtown area. We saw it was rated as a 5 Star hotel, but for the cost, many of the other boutique type places we stayed in New Zealand were far more worth the price and rating! Overall, a good, but average, stay.

After booking a 3 bedroom apartment for a family holiday in October 2012 we were surprised to say the least when we arrived and there was a problem when we tried to check in. Despite the deposit being paid, the booking being made through the hotel website and a confirmation email from the hotel in October 2012-they claimed not to have a booking for my family when we arrived. The desk clerk disappeared after we tried to check in and we were left standing for 30 minutes with no information (we had already worked out there was a problem) until we asked if we could get some food while we waited. After 45 minutes the manager came out to inform us of the problem and let us know that lunch was "on the hotel as it was entirely their fault". Eventually we were put into a 2 bedroom apartment and had an extra hotel room-hotel was full due to Chinese new year so we were lucky to get anything. Lucky our 16 year old son was very happy to have his own room. Everything after that was fantastic. great hotel, the restaurant is excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. the shuttle service into and out of Queenstown did seem to bring out the worst in people as everyone was pushing and shoving to get on-forward booking resolved most of the problems. great views from the room sand would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: I would suggest if you use the website to book then telephone to confirm

The rooms here are excellent. High quality finish and fantastic views. The water taxi is handy. However the service is not great. Although the staff are friendly and try hard, they are let done by poor process and systems. The little things add up to an inconsistent experience. They are not quite there and when it comes to meeting expectations the experience does not match .

We stayed two days here. There are some things about the hotel that are a 5 (rooms nice) lakeview rooms amazing (but then any lake view in queenstown will be amazing, food is beyond belief (both quality and price!.

But several things were a bit bothersome. Our experience in New Zealand is that the people are amazingly nice and friendly and helpful - but not here. We arrived early and knew they had a 3pm checkin. I was prepared to wait but was not prepared for the lack of effort to get a room ready (ours was ready at 2:30pm even though they have check out at 11 - which i later discovered is inflexible). This means the folks in our room before us checked out at 11 but we were not allowed in for 3.5 hours. I suspect they just don't attend to this. I checked a couple of times and felt like i was a vagrant asking for a free room or something. In every other hotel where I arrived before check in time they made an effort to clean up the room we were waiting for and kept us posted. Unbelievable.

Their restaurant is worth the cost. Although very expensive, their waiter (Tamer) was great. The food was fabulous, the prices were high. But a meal we'll remember - definitely worth it.

If you don't have to come early or leave later and can get a lakeside room, this is a good place to stay. But otherwise, their lack of going the extra mile may be aggravating.

Possibly in another country I would give this a 5 but in New Zealand, a level of friendliness and hospitality are expected and here, the Rees fell short.
