I did this trip in 2006 so none of the dates match. But I loved it even though it stretched my ability.

“Wow! What a well organised trip!”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

I did the Milford Track with a great friend in late March 2013. The trip from go to whoa was fabulously well organised. Both my friend and I had food intolerances and nothing was too much trouble. Every meal was considered by the chefs and was absolutley fantastic. 5 star meals in the middle of nowhere and hot showers at the end of the day was heavenly. Nothing but praise for the 4 guides that took our group of 47. Fantastic young people and also Hunter who is the 'slightly' more senior guide (lol) made the trip more enjoyable with their enthuisiasm and energy. Wuld totally recommend anyone to do this trek. The middle day is somewhat more difficult than is possibly advertised, but in saying that we had no troubles at all. We had perfect weather, blue skies and a postcard picture was guaranteed at least every 5 minutes. Another tick on our bucket list!

“Totally amazing.”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

The Routeburn track with Ultimate Hikes was easily the highlight of our 4 week trip to NZ. A superb walk over 3 days helped by very friendly and knowledgeable guides. The private twin rooms in both mountain lodges were amazing given they were built by materials brought in by helicopter! Large rooms with lovely en-suites and comfortable beds.
The social aspect of this trek should not be underestimated. We walked with 22 others, not all at once as you go at whatever pace you choose, and we bonded very easily. The evenings were fun with a good chance to chat with the others and partake in a glass of wine/beer etc. The meals were also very good, wholesome food and you made your own sandwiches for the days walk!

Spectacular scenery with brass knobs on! Do this if you can, it's well worth the money.

“Supurb Ultimate Hikes Routeburn Track experience last week”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Achieved a long standing dream to walk the Routeburn Track. We were fortunate to experience the variety of Fiordland weather -- waterfalls thundering thanks to rain on day one; glorious mountain vistas and blue skies day 2; and a pleasant meander through forest on day 3. Our guides, Sam,Karen and Grace were simply wonderful --very hard-working in most unobtrusive ways, with lovely touches of humour. Food and accommodation was excellent; we had a most comfortable twin room with quality new beds and a most spacious en-suite. In one of the more remote areas of New Zealand ! Lodge facilities were of a very high standard, with fantastic drying rooms to ensure you really can carry just one change of clothing. The recommended training programme and list of what to carry were spot on --a big thank you to all lodge staff, guides and support staff in Queenstown.

“Milford Track with Ultimate Hikes review”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

The Ultimate Hike Milford Track experience (we were group 160) was absolutely super. It was very well organised with every contingency planned for and my wife and I were so pampered that we felt were truly spoilt.

From the girls in the office in Queenstown, the prewalk brief and right through the tramp, things were so organised that we were always certain we would "make it".

The bus driver, Alex, is a natural entertainer and his commentary was full of interesting facts and figures that made the trip to Te Anau seem like a concert performance. He was also a safe driver!

We had three superb guides, Andy, Sam & Marky. It is not possible to single one out as it would be unjust to the other two. Suffice to say, those three mature young gentlemen performed as a single well trained unit and always put our safety and comfort first. I cannot see how their performance could be improved. You were amazing, guys.

We paid for a private room with Queen bed and ensuite for each night that was way above the standard we thought was possible considering how isolated we were from "civilisation". It was totally worth the money.

The two course breakfasts, the lunches (which we made ourselves) were great. The 3 course meals at the end of the day were excellent restaurant quality and after a day's tramping were so welcome. The food was a credit to the chefs and their staff.

As for the tramp itself - what fun. After an overnighter in Glade House (15 minutes from the drop off point at the head of Lake Te Anau), we headed off to Pompolona Lodge and spent long periods tramping beside the Clinton River. It was inspiringly beautiful in the sunny day we had. The Clinton River was a mixture of azure blue and emerald green water and was absolutely pristine and perfectly clear. It would be hard for anyone to appreciate its absolute beauty unless they were there.

The next day's tramp was up, over and down the McKinnon Pass. We were fortunate that it rained all day!! This was because it kept us cool. We were thoroughly briefed the night before on how handle the ascent and descent and the helpful advice given, meant we were confident of succeeding. We took some great photos at the top looking down the valleys in both directions in spite of the rain.

That afternoon we arrived at the Quintin Lodge, had a most welcome shower, did our washing(!) and got ready for another 3 course meal. It did not disappoint.

The last day's walk was in fine weather along sections of the Arthur River which had its own attractions to Sandfly Bay. We arrived there in fine fettle, met the launch which ferried us to the Mitre Peak Lodge. Our room had a bath and a shower and I have never appreciated a bath as much as the one there. Once again the evening meal and company was wonderful.

I must not forget our fellow trampers who were from very different backgrounds, countries and whom were all younger than me. It did not matter. My wife and I made many new friends and the common bond of doing a long (54km) tramp united us in a special way.

As you must by now realise, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole Ultimate Hike Milford Tramp. We give our compliments to the whole Ultimate Hikes team and will look to them first in future.

Ultimate Hikes - we loved it. Thank you.
