Alta Apartments

I chose the Alta Apartments after spending a long time reading reviews on TA. I wanted a 2 bed with a view and these apartments seemed to offer everything I needed at a reasonable price. The apartments were nice and modern, the view not as wonderful as I had hoped as it was over lots of rooftops. The parking was a bit of a squeeze and access was very narrow, I'm glad I wasn't driving. It was definitely too far to walk into town, maybe it would have been okay if we were not with my elderly Father but coming back up the hill was definitely too much, even for me. We arrived after hours and were asked by letter to contact the manager by phone. I tried but was unable to get through. I was unsure how to Check out as the office was closed over the weekend, howevert I bumped into the manager as we were going out on the Sat morning as she said to leave the keys in a box near the exit. It was an OK stay but I would probably look for somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Ask for the first block of apartments, they seemed to have slightly better views.

Arrival: we arrived late, but that was no problem, the key was waiting for us. The Apartment: Perfect! Very clean with comfy beds. Underfloor heating was a definite plus. The kitchen had plenty of glassware, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc. and the complimentary coffee, tea was really welcome and tided us over until we went to the supermarket nearby. And...The View....Superb! Nothing was too much to ask Helen and her staff, all were extremely helpful. In short, a fabulous week in a beautiful part of the world.

Well appointed apartment (apart from a hole in the wall in the bedroom) with absolutely breathtaking views.
Warm and clean.
The kitchen had minimal utensils / cooking implements but you managed.
It would be good to have some little things like salt / pepper and dishwashing liquid (they provided powder for the dishwasher). This would help overseas visitors as you are travelling light.
A steep walk back from town - takes about 20 mins.
Reception only available in the morning which can be a problem. We had some new guests knock at our door one evening as they could not get into their apartment ...they said the key was not in the keypad box.

These are great apartments for a family. The units have everything you need. The walk to Queenstown was ok going down but we never attempted to walk back up the hill. Taxi fare is approx $10 and all the taxi drivers are friendly. These are very warm apartments. The manager is very friendly and helpful

We had a flight cancelled due to snow and we had to re-arrange our stay. Helen, the manager, was great about this and was happy to move our stay date for us.
When we finally got down there, we called her and she arranged for a taxi to pick us up, which saved us a few dollars, since he did it for a pre-arrange price.
When we got there, we met Helen and she had up graded us to a two bed/two floor building with stunning, and I mean, STUNNING views of the lake and mountains! It was breath taking. She told us she was quiet and, since it was our first time in QT, we didn’t want to look at a wall.
The apartment was excellent, very clean, all the mod cons, i.e. washing machine, dish washer, microwave, oven and hob etc. There was a good TV with plenty of channels to choice from. And the heating was very good, since it was winter when we were there. There was an internet connection, which was reasonably priced.
Down stairs, there was a bathroom, shower/bath and sink and then a separate toilet. Two good sized bedrooms with good heating and plenty of storage space. Down to the small basement was the laundry room. One of the bedrooms had the view of the mountains and lake...it was great to wake up to that.
The location was good, it was about a 10 minute walk into the main town area. The walk back was a bit of a pain, since it was all up hill, but it wasn’t that bad (I’m just lazy, lol).
We did have a group staying in an apartment opposite that had a party until about 1am. They were smoking, so sitting outside on their veranda, which meant they were loud. But they left and the rest of the time there was very peaceful.

PROS : THE VIEWS! Helen the manager. Good TV. Good internet. Very clean. Very comfortable.
CONS : A little walk from town.

I would happily live there if I could! I would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Call Helen directly, see if you can book a place with a view.

We found this apartment on Holidayfor5.com and really enjoyed our time here. Was pleasantly surprised with the units given the price we paid. The unit is convenient and a great place to unwind with the family after enjoying queenstown.

Room Tip: ask for apartment No 3.
