Our biggest mistake with this place was to stay only one night!! The apartments are base on the Frankton Road overlooking the lake. Reception staff are exceptionally friendly and even gave us some milk to kick start our stay. He gave us a personal tour of the apartment. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. There is almost nothing this place doesn't have - as you walk in there is a separate washer and dryer. A desktop computer and printer are in the hallway. WiFi is free and you can connect up to 2 devices. The bedrooms are plush with a very modern ensuite bathroom and great showers. The open plan sitting/dining/full kitchen is spacious and very well appointed. There is a full size fridge and gas cooker. We cooked dinner ourselves that night and enjoyed it whilst watching the sunset. All rooms have air conditioning and there is even surround sound in the living room. Slippers are provided too.

Any negatives: no in room safe though there is one in reception. Also the apartments are not designed for the less able bodied! There is a steep staircase and steps to the apartment too - not easy when lugging your suitcases. But these two points are minor and we would have no hesitation staying there again. In fact we almost changed our itinerary to stay longer!!

Stayed three nights with my husband in a one bedroom apartment with a view of The Remarkables, wish we could have stayed for an extended period of time. We were personally guided to our room, which was exceptionally well looked after, had a nice comfy bed, modern decor, and felt like a home away from home. We were fortunate enough to get a free upgrade from the Standard apartment to the Premier, which meant air conditioning and a computer and printer in the room. The small downside to this was it meant we were on the ground floor and had to close the glass doors at night for security. Personally we prefer fresh air at night, but if you were to have the top floor with balcony you could leave the door open. The staff are all incredibly friendly and Pricilla was especially helpful when we booked some activities while in Queenstown. We scored a free bottle of NZ wine for booking activities though the hotel. As others have mentioned the road can be a little noisy outside and is about a 10-15min walk to the town, but these things didn't tarnish our stay at all. We would definitely recommend Pounamu!

Room Tip: Book direct with the hotel for a free gift. If within your budget, ask for a top floor apartment with a view of The Remarkables. The top floor rooms mean you can leave the balcony doors open for fresh air at night. Great view to wake up to also!

Stayed two nights in a 2 bed apartment which was very modern and clean. Has it's own underground carpark. The whole of one side is window leading onto the balcony which looks out over the lake. It is approx 1km into Queenstown itself. Only downside is that it is on the road between Frankton and Queenstown so you do hear some traffic when the window is open.

Was lucky enough to stay here with my ex partner, who knows of the owners.

This blew my mind away on how incredible the place was and it felt like a palace for the 5 nights we stayed there. Very romantic and very stunning place.

Enjoyed a four night stay in a 2-BR Premier apartment earlier this month. Apartment was fantastic. Spotlessly clean, well appointed with ensuites to both bedrooms. Master BR had magnificent views over the lake (as did living area and balcony). View really was spectacular, over the lake to the Remarkables. Free wi-fi was fast and no hassles getting on (our Premier apartment even came with its own desktop pc and printer!). Bed was extremely comfortable with Down toppers on both. If there was a negative comment it would only be I found the pillows a little flat and unyielding, and I would have thought each apartment might have a selection of different pillows rather than six per bed that were all the same. Large sliding glass windows slid back to really open up the balcony area, however when window is open there is quite a bit of traffic noise (can't notice this as soon as window/door is closed). Leo and his team were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The apartment was a comfortable walk into town, although we tended to get a taxi back which cost a reasonable NZ$9-10. Pounamu does not have a gym or swimming pool, although there is an arrangement to access a gym in town for those staying several nights.
While certainly not bargain priced accommodation, I would thoroughly recommend Pounamu and would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms had best views with balconies in all upper-floor apartments.
