“Ticked off the list but wouldn't jump again”

When in Queenstown you must do a bungy. We did and I don't regret it but it was not fun. I thought it would be a thrill but it was pretty terrifying and me and my partner (separately) both got hurt from the jolt of the bungy when it bounces, we were in quite a bit of muscle pain for a whole day, particularly around the chest and shoulders.

There is a student rate so if you are a student ask for that. A second bungy is only $50 if you do it straight after.

Staff were great and reassuring.

Photos and video were a complete rip off and there were no cheaper options, I.e. to just pick a few photos, you had to buy the whole package for $45+

“Thrilling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

My partner jumped at night from the bridge and it was thrilling. The staff reassured him and made him feel at ease. There is a great viewing platform for friends and others to take photos. There is also a video and photo book that you can purchase on the spot. We paid $80 for this and the photo book has approx 12 large photos in it. He also received a tee shirt. I think this is great value.

“Tuck your head in!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Although i'd done the much higher Nevis the day before this one was much more fun because there's more of an atmosphere (see my Nevis review).

The staff are all friendly and a good selection in the shop to spend your dollars on.

They might not say at the time but you do get the option of either
Straight forward jump above the river
The chance to touch the water
Get fully dunked in the river :-)

I chose to be dunked and the only one there at the time to be. Great cheers from the spectators as I re emerged soaked head to knees. But make sure you keep your arms straight, head tucked in and eyes closed at the last second. I forgot the last two and ended up with black eyes. The staff gave me an ice pack! I would happily have dived again straight after as would now.

Hi Mike - great to hear you enjoyed your dunking at the Kawaura Bridge. It is unfortunate that in the thrill of the jump you forgot about tucking your head in as it is very important to do so. Hope the black eyes went down quickly.

“Highest but not best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

When getting to Queenstown I was only planning to do the Kawarau bridge but then decided to book the two with the first being the Nevis.

Yes it's the highest and therefore hopefully the best but there's no atmosphere. You have to arrive by tour bus because the place is at the end of a mountain track. So no spectators unless anyone wants to buy a bus ticket!! Staff are fine in gearing you up and friendly. You then get ferried across to a suspended hut in a small group, bungied up, dive and it's all over. Note they tell you to dive not jump on this one.

So to me that although I was travelling alone there were no spectating from tourists and if they could get there the jump hut is quite a distance from where they would stand to work out who's jumping.

Having done the Kawarau bridge the following day this was more enjoyable. Larger shop for browsing, spectators ca get on the bridge close to the jumpers and no charge for spectators as the bridge is by the side of the road with large car park. If you decide to do this one then go for a full dunk in the river. My only advice is to make sure you tuck your head in before hitting the water. I got two black eyes from hitting it face on!! Would still dive off again.

Thanks for your feedback Mike.

Just so you know - any spectators who go out to the Nevis are also allowed to take the shuttle out to the jump pod with you so they can be right there with you, up close and personal, as you jump.

And agreed! We recommend going for a full dunk at the Kawarau ad well (but make sure you listen to our Jump Crew and tuck your chin in as they instruct!)
