“Excellent motel with friendly hosts”
Reviewed March 14, 2011

After 2 weeks touring the north part of NZ we had 5 nights booked at Amity and were delighted when Doug showed us the upstairs unit, which immediately felt really at home. There was a separate bedroom and the lounge was light and airy and very spacious. Whilst we missed the stunning sea views of the north we were compenstaed with a good view of the mountain and gondola and were able to relax in the sunshine with the balcony doors wide open.
Although it is 5-10 minutes walk from the centre this is very manageable despite the steep hill and means that the location is very quiet which suited us fine.
Doug and Jo were extremely helpful with things to do and where to eat - we enjoyed the Brittania after Doug's recommendation (including the free drinks).
We especially enjoy walking and found some delightful and easy walks along the Frankton arm of the lake. We found Arrowtown quite charming and discovered some stunning scenery in Glenorchy.
Amity is great value for money and you can be assured of a warm welcome and comfortable accommodation.

My sister and I stayed at the Amity Lodge for five days last week in a 2 bedroom apartment (room 19) in the new block. We had a fantastic holiday in Queenstown and would highly recommend the zip lining as something fun and interesting to do.

The motel was well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short or long break away. We had afternoon sun all day on the balcony and Jo and Doug were great hosts, volunteering information on what to do and where to eat while we were in Queenstown. They also have free maps and were very approachable and helpful. They even let us have our two bedroom apartment still, after a friend of ours cancelled on us at the last minute, at a reduced price which was really lovely of them.

You can catch a shuttle from the airport for two people for $10 each which can be booked when you get into Queenstown or can catch the number 11 bus from the airport which leaves every 15 minutes and stops about 100m from the motel.

The bus to the shopping centre and to Arrowtown also leave from the same place and cost between $6-$8 one way. You can also buy an all day bus pass for $17.

The motel has its own car park and is about a 7 minute walk down and ten minute walk back from town. It is quite a steep hill though, so I wouldn't recommend walking up it while pushing a pram at all. We had dinner at Les Alps which had amazing steaks and the little market at the church in town on Sundays is definitely worth a visit.

Thanks to Jo and Doug for helping us to make our visit to Queenstown memorable and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to staying there again on my next visit.

We arrived and were very pleasantly surprised with the unit at Amity Lodge. It was beautifully presented, spacious and very, very clean.
We were treated well by the staff who were courteous and helpful
Our only criticism was that there were too many rules. Directions were given about length of shower ,covering heaters but most prevalent was about cooking. There were signs saying you could be fined if you cooked either fish or curry. We were even questioned about what we were going to buy when we asked for directions to the supermarket. A bit offputting to be honest

Most of our extended trip to New Zealand used B&Bs but in Queenstown we took a chance (as we thought) on booking an apartment at Amity Lodge. Not only does it live up to its slogan of 'The Friendly One' it offers lovely, spacious accommodation at real value for money prices. Our apartment was recently refurbished, spotlessly clean and carpeted throughout. It's about 10 minutes walk to the centre of town (and in truth the hill on the way back is a bit of a drag) but the upside to that is that Amity is in a quiet location, which is importantant to us. A great choice in a busy tourist town.

We were very happy to stay at the Amity Lodge. From the moment we checked in with Doug we felt we made a good decision booking at this lodge. Doug gave us suggestions of places to visit, restaurants & grocery stores. Being that these are self-catering rooms, we were able to cook some meals in the room. We had a room on the second floor with a beautiful view of the mountain with the tram. It was an easy 10 minute walk into town. There is a slight hill on the return walk, but it did not bother us. It is a quiet and relaxing, especially with the balcony overlooking Queenstown. We look forward returning to Queenstown and staying at the Amity Lodge again.

We were warmly greeted at the reception, and the staff were very helpful in booking an excursion for us to Milford Sound with Glenorchy Air. The motel is in a quiet side street about 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of Queenstown (shops/bars/restaurants/ and all other facilities.

Have stayed here a number of time and is a good reliable choice. Rooms are large and well equipped and some at least have spectacular views. The hotel is situated above the city centre in Queenstown so very easy to get to the attractions but a bit harder on the way back!!
